He appears as a friendly overweight black man with a deep voice. Although Chef cares for all the children in town, he takes special care to watch over a group of four who always seem to be getting into trouble. In fact, he is attuned to three of them. The fourth, an unlucky poverty stricken child, keeps getting violently killed on an almost weekly basis, causing Chef to gain a fair amount of discord before regretfully severing his attunement. Chef doesn't give much thought to the boy's regular return from the grave, assuming him to be brought back by Jesus Christ, who coincidentally lives in the same town. Chef does his best to protect all the children in town from harm, except for one small British kid, who is so unlikable that even Chef can't summon much desire to shield him from harm. (I'd like to apologize to any English readers at this point. Nothing personal, it's just that no one likes this kid.) He works off the occasional dissonance received from this at the local tether, oddly enough, a public access cable TV station where Jesus Christ broadcasts a show to the town. Unfortunately for Chef, this p*issant, whitebread Colorado mountain town that should remain completely unnoticed, seems to be a magnet for every conceivable disaster from alien invasion to volcanic eruption to a talking piece of fecal matter. Chef has been unable to detect any diabolical influence in any of these occurrences, (except for a visit from Lucifer himself, who came to beat up Jesus, and an attack of Zombis) and has come to the tentative conclusion that the town has some link to a particularly bizarre area of the Marches, which allows strange ethereal spirits to make their way into our world. Chef, for the most part, maintains his role, helping the children through their problems. His favorite method is to sing a helpful song to guide them, but his Lustful discord has been interfering with this lately, causing him to lose track of the subject and sing songs about pure carnal desire, much to the confusion of his third grade audience. Chef does not desire a word, and is happy to stay in the town where he makes his home. Well, everyone, sorry about this. My next post'll be better I promise. ::embarrassed smile:: Yours, Brian A Rogers ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Nov 1998 12:47:22 +0100 (CET) From: =?iso-8859-1?Q?H=E5vard_R=F8nne_Faanes?= Subject: Re: IN> A sample character that absolutely no one asked for. That there are no choices? It will only be the way it will be? > Not quite. The argument is that if *every living thing* (including the universe itself) has a limit on their range of choices (in this case, on the Fate/Destiny scale), then the universe is deterministic. The philosophical difference between a deterministic and a non-deterministic universe is quite large, and leads to other questions. Note that under this definition of determinism, individual agents have, as a rule, a fairly large range of choices and/or actions they can make. In addition, this says nothing about which direction the universe will go in its own choices between Fate and Destiny. The counter argument to this view of the In Nomine universe centers on the definition of determinism. If determinism is exclusive, then any choice destroys determinism. However, if determinism is inclusive, then any lack of choice forces determinism. The definition used by Ms. Dresner appears to have been the inclusive form. Others have objected, and insisted on using exclusive determinism. I'll bet that didn't really answer your question, though. >Vz > >What if I told you there was no place > you could run to to hide from your fears? >Where good is bad and bad is good and > all the tears you cry no one can hear? > -- 24-7 Spys, "Heaven & Hell" > > Mark (still strange...) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Nov 1998 18:29:13 EST From: Kurai24371@aol.com Subject: IN> NOMINE IS THERE ANYWAY I CAN GET A COPY OF RULES & HOW TO ROLE UP CHARCTERS.
