Brad Pitt wasn't in _The Saint_ from what I recall. Wow.. that must have been why I liked that movie... I only see one or two movies a year and all those hunky male role types get mixed up. Man.. Nybbas is gonna be pissed... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 May 1998 14:21:33 +0100 (BST) From: Steve Jessop Subject: Re: IN> First Game On Sun, 24 May 1998, MarkDEddy wrote: > Get the GM screen, and make then the Munchkins in Feast of Blades. It looks like a bog standard fantasy hack and slash, but if you run parts of The Enemy Within as one-offs, your players might realise that: 1) Combat is *dangerous* in this game, and to be avoided where possible. (Generally they realise this the first time a character bleeds to death five minutes after the end of a combat which they won.) 2) There is a lot of intrigue going on, and if they don't interact socially with NPCs, they will miss it all, and lose. 3) It is a lot safer to talk to someone than to try to pass a Fellowship roll :) When you've finished that, if you put them into IN, and make sure that there are people around that it is in their interests to talk to rather than fight, you might just wean them onto proper role-playing. If they discover while talking to NPCs that those characters actually have histories, and backgrounds, and personalities distinct from that of the GM, they should be likely to follow suit. If all else fails, run a few one-offs with pre-genned characters with a few paragraphs written about each of their personalities. Tell your players that the 'rules of the game' are that they aren't allowed to break character. In the case of IN, slam them with dissonance if they do, until they discover the 'tactical advantages' of role-playing.
