A person with a 2 will still = has a chance to defeat a Liar, the success of his resonance is dependant = on the victim failing a will roll, not a contest of wills. That is why = Lucifer cannot affect the Malakim at the Gates of Hell. The power of a Belseraph comes into play when a person already wants to = believe a lie and that's when the whole thing gets really interesting. = Being a Muslim, I have a different Cosmological view of In-Nomine, I = tend to perceive things about the game from an "Islamic" perspective. = In Islam Lucifer was never an Angel and hence never fell. I think = Lucifer was a Belseraph from the beginning, His "great lie" being that = there is such a thing as "free will" in the sense we think of today. = That way Lucifer has the whole symphony under his sway with only God, = Kobal, and Habbalah sharing the "truth". This also explains why Kobal = is so grumpy because he is getting irritated waiting to reveal the = "punch line"=20 Just my two cents :) P.S. I've been thinking of writing something along those lines, If = anyone is interested let me know and I'll get started. - -----Original Message----- From: The blue eyes, the leather, some guys just like leather = [SMTP:EEEAMEEH@livjm.ac.uk] Sent: Thursday, August 20, 1998 7:54 PM To: in_nomine-l@lists.io.com Subject: IN> Lucifer Many people thingkLucifer is this all powerful entity. Okay, I looked thru INC and a whole bunch of other places, and I didnt find one decent Prophecy based setting. If I missed one, I do apologize... The Second Angelic War The Angel sat in a dark corner of the City of Chicago. It was raining that day, and it was just dark enough for a human to wonder if indeed there WERE demons around every corner. On most nights, the was not ture. Today they were not so lucky. The Angel didn't have to invoke his resonance to know the approaching being was, in fact, a demon. He yearned for the old days, when a malakite like him could slay demons with impunidy. These days, he was FORCED to co-operate with some... or else the Symphony itself may crumble. Judgeing by the appearence of this demon's rumpled clothes, he gathered it was a Calabite. Odd... This calabite seemed almost... Distressed. "What have you got?" Asked the Malakite. "At least 4 of them are in that warehouse... I don't think they saw me." Replied the Calabite. "Alright, lets go." Replied the Malakite "Wait," said the Calaibite, "Shouldnt We get some back up?" "Since whe does a Calabite worry about the odds?" "Since you Angels started pissing on each others territory... At lest down in hell, we KNOW who the bad guys are..." Sneered the Calabite. It was a mistake. The Malakite Drew his dagger. As they both started to circle each other... "ENOUGH!" The word bellowed thru the Symphony around them. Angel and Demon both turned to the source. Both were filled with Awe. Next to them stood Michael, Archangel of War. The Malakite bowed to his superior... And shortly thereafter, so did the Calabite. "Tariel." Said Micheal. "What did I say? For this night you two work together." "Yes my lord." Replied the Malakite. The Calabite dared to speak up without permission. "My Lord, Michael. My master Baal sends his greetings... As well as a renewel of the Promise." "Scarg, Calabite of Baal. I accept youre service for this night. Now, go you two, before my presence is noticed. And Tariel?" "Yes my Lord?" Asked the Malakite. "You're obligation is to assist the Calabite in the destruction of the Renegades. DO NOT stray from this goal. Understood?" "Yes, my lord." The two Celestials, Demon and Angel left the presence of the higher being. Michael stood and said, invoking powers better left unmentioned, an said: "Heaven and Hell be with you both." - ------------------------------- The Second Angelic War began shortly after Dominic's unjust persecution of Gabriel. In her madness she stormed away... And became mad. Not quite mad as we humans understand it, actually much madder than that. She began to see humans as the cause of her persecution, and it wasnt far from the truth. In her madness, she began sending her servitors out on odd missions... None of which saw the final outcome untill it was too late. Her plan began to take shape during the great crusades, where angel fought angel on both sides of a holy war. Neither side won, and both felt betrayed. Gabriel understood this, as she was betrayed by Dominic in his mad pursuit of Judgement. Angels flocked to her ranks, sharing in her madness as nothing else could. She attuned these angels to her Word... As well as to her madness, enveloping them in it. In short, they became worse fantics then a Malakite, and far more dangerous. Dominic saw it coming, and prepared he greatest Judement for her... Untill Yves stepped in, and told him to wait untill he had a chat with her. Yves went to Gabriel and began to talk to her... Until Gabriel assaulted him... Putting him into the Celestial version of a Coma. Yves has not Recovered... Gabriel then took her servitors, however many wanted to come, and left heaven, setting up in a tether in the mortal world. The whole of heaven was shocked, and Laurence, the finest of the Demon Hunters went before the council and pledged his life in the destruction of the Renegade Gabriel. Lawurence went, with thousands of his army, ready to do battle. Gabriel faced Thousands of Angels by herewself, and Challenged Laurence himself to combat to the death. Laurence expected a fair fight... he was wrong. No Celestial who went to that fight on the side of heaven came back. At least, not on the side of heaven. Just as the grigori were cast out centuries ago, so it was with Gabriel and her renegades. The worst part was, Gabriel and her renegades had not truly fallen, and they still hear the Ture symphony... Though they ignore it. God himself looked down upon affairs, and drew Dominic into the upper realms. He then sealed off most of heaven, leaving only the Groves, The Savannah, and the Eternal City behind, open to the angels. To the lost souls of Humanity, he left a place in the marches, were they wait... For heaven to be reunited, or destroyed. The Angelic Side The leader of the War is Michael, and he is having a tough time with it. He lost a great deal of men when Laurence went to attack Gabriel on his own, and those that remained were few. His word now walso encompasses Laurence, so any Angel who wishes to devote himself to the Sword may still do so... Though it is much the same as Servitors of Eli. Micheal now holds the distinction of 2 words... thought to be impossible. But with god, what is NOT impossible? The word of the Sword is actually held by his greatest pupil, but is HIS word to control as is all of the war. In the beginning, the Demons simply tried to use the split between the Angels to thier own gain, but Lucifer is no fool, The Lightbringer himself saw what Gabriel is trying to do, and wants to stop it... for his OWN reasons. This 2 pronged attack on the Loyal angels almost cost them the war, and all of creation. Micheal constanly prays that God is helping... In fact god IS helping, as best he can. The casualtes of this war have been great. First to go was Novalis, who fell to the Demons. Next went Marc, who was doing nothing, but who fell to Gabriel's servitors. Add the fact that Dominic, Yves, and Laurence are gone, that Angels themselves are in a pickle. Thier words were tranfered to thier most worthy servitors, excpet in the case of Laurence, whom The council gave the Word to Michael's servitor, and Yves, who is not dead, but locked in some kind of Celestial Coma. (Servitors of Yves and Laurence are still playable, but You cannot summon Yves, and Michael or his greatest Servitor appears in Laurence's place. The other now deceased angels Words are also playable, held by other angels.) True to thier existance, the Malakim did NOT join the Renegades. The most populace chior left, they still cannot fall, nor can they join Gabriel and her madness. The chior that joined the most was actually the Ofanites, and a large portion of Kyroites. There are NO Mercurians amoung the Maddened Ones, as they love mankind too much to seek its destruction. Eli, in fact, has now become Second to Micheal in this war. When he banished his own memories, and fell into the Symphony, it began to direct him around to where he was most needed. Thus the Angels of Creation are now considered the most valued servitors of heaven. For although it is a war that they fight, it is creation Gabriel seeks to destroy. The Demonic Side At first, all the demon Princes/princesses to atvantage of this chasm between the 2 groups of angels... Untill Lucifer called them to a halt. He told them the truth (an odd thing for a Balseraph), where Kronos's demons were charged with perverting the symphony from within, the Rebels, as they are called, are charged with DESTROYING it from within. They are all blind to the fact that they themselves are part of it... and In destroying it, they destroy themselves. While a demon has his OWN twisted resonance, we are not trying to DESTORY the symphony, we are trying to change it. To PROVE we are right. Most Demons were about to aruge, when Gabriel and her Madden Ones attack Demonic holdings as well. Now the demons had 2 enemies... and niether was better. One, however, was the lesser of 2 Goodnesses. Now, with heavely losses on both the Angelic and Demonic side, the demons struck an uneasy truce with the Angels, in order to survive. Demons have lots a lot in this war, but what really hurts is the loss of the princes of hell. Specifically: Andrealphas, Asmodeous, Belial, and Valefor. The demons were quite shocked to learn that Belial did not DIE, but, in fact JOINED Gabriel. A sheer sign that her Madness has overtaken her, to allow her opposite within her ranks. With the Power of both the Demon Price of Fire, and the Archangel of fire behind them, Asmodeous did not stand a chance. Andrealphas was killed out of principle, and Valefor stumbled unto omething he shouldnt have. Unlike the angels, The word of Fire could NOT be reassigned, and no demoinc servitors of fire exist. A large number of young demons also left hell with Belial, from every choir but the Lilim and Impudites. Hell is still open, and far less choosey these days. Lucifer somehow sees gabriel's plans, and is going to activley help stop them as well as his former prince, Belial, who has betrayed him. Lucifer is no longer pleased. He wants BLOOD. The Maddened Ones Led by Gabriel and backed by Belial (Who never liked mankind anyway. His connection to Gabirel exposed him to her madness, and her desired to create a new heaven), the Renegades are in a tough but workable sopt. They still feel both the Angelic and Infernal Symphony's, and are out for one goal... They want a new heaven. One ALL thier own. From this new Heaven, they will have unlimited access to the symphony, and can begin to unravel it from within. It was easier in the beginning, but now that the demons have allied with the angels, they are in a tough spot. Despite this, Gabriel and Belial have hatched great plans... Focusing on Subelty... So far its working, and working well. they constantly drive the Demons and Angels against one another, while looking for ways to percert the symphony. Gabriel still has access to the Symphony, and is constantly creating new angels, devoted to her maddness from it. They learned the hard way attacking mankind directly is pointless... and bound to attract attention (Hitler and his stupidity comes to mind). Then Gabriel discovered knowlage stole from the library of Yves by Valefor... How to harvest souls. So THATs how Lucifer is doing it, Huh? Thought Gabirel and Belial. They learned f they can gather enough souls, they can create thier own Celetial realm. They cannot do this otherwise because A) They dont have God helping them, and B) Hell already existed when Lucifer came about or Lucier had a lot of Help making it when he fell (I dont know which is true). Gabriel has a kind of temperary headquarters in the Far Marches to which her servitors may come and go as easily as they could ascend to heaven. Angelic/Demonic alliances Blandine/Beleth (Conducting thier OWN little war vs Gabriel) Baal/Michael Conduct the front, with alliances from everyone else as needed. Note that Jordi is Directly involved, as is Lilith. Lucifer comes an goes as he pleases, though he does so more often these days. God is also trying to help, but Gabriel is somehow out of his reach, or God is unwilling to act directly. (Line taken ALMOST directly from the Prophecy) Major Places of Note In the Second War Eden. Now an Oil pumping station in the Desert, not to far from Jerusalem, Eden is the refuge of the Celestial bodies of the Angels. Those who perish in the mortal world Spend less time Facing truama, and appear here in days, not weeks. Malakim are a LOT more suited to this than others, and re-appear here in minutes, fresh vessel and all. Unlike the old days, vessels generated here have NO role. They merely *ARE* and that is all. This apparently is God's hand helping his servants. Demons are NEVER allowed in Eden, save Lucifer. Just inside Eden, a tree sits. It is the the Tree of Knowlage. Yes the same tree Adam and Eve took the apple from and learned the truth of thier existance. The tree is an Unlimited well of Essence, to which an true ANGEL can draw from. A gift from god is this, but it cannot move. The Celestial know better than to try an eat the apples off the tree (No one, not even LUCIFER is THAT stupid), lest they risk god's direct wrath. Even Gabriel herself will not desecrate the tree. (Without looking at her servant, "Don't eat that...." A pause, "Trust me.") Possible plot Seeds. The Damned Soul (The Prophecy Part one). The Celestials know of an evil man, who swallowed the souls of others. All sides are chared with bringing it back in tact. (Lucifer will turn it over to Michael, Gabriel wants to use it to open her OWN heaven, Micheal wants it to open the rest of heaven) The Nellaphim (The Prophecy Part 2). God has ordered an Angel to mate with a human. To bridge the gap bewtween the Humans and Angels. Also ordered are the locations of all remianing Nellaphim on earth, and the recall of the Grigori. The Seraphim council will protest, and Even Lucifer may object. Will God's will be done? Or will Garbiel prove that God is NOT infallible? The Prophet. The Celestials learn of a man who is directly in contact with god, somehow. They all want him captured and brought back alive. To Lucifer and the Celestials of heaven, this MAY be thier only link to god. To gabriel, its another link to the symphony they may destroy... diminish its strength even further. - ------------ Okay folks! there ya have it! I'm told that the soul may be judged/punished/something for up to a year, and the eleven months is to make sure you're praying for as long as the judgement may take while not saying that your relative is so bad that it takes the maximum length of time possible. I've been playing with ways to try to simplify disturbance, and finally hit on the following: - Compute the amount of noise (the modifier) as the book states - Roll against Perception + Noise - distance modifier ...where the distance modifier uses the distance modifiers for resonance CDs (but is applied to the target number here): +2 for touching the source +1 if within 1 yard (or is it foot?) +0 if between 1 and 10 yards -1 if between 10-50 yards -2 up to 100 yards, and an additional -1 for each 100 yards thereafter The last line is the only addition to the resonance modifier table, and may be useful for long-range use of resonance, as well. (Resonances only work line-of-sight, though, while disturbance can be sensed even if there are visual barriers.) The general effect of this is that small disturbances are more likely to be heard, even a fair ways off, while large ones have a much short range than before (though still fairly large). Highly-perceptive people are likely to hear even small disturbances at a fairly large range (roughly 50% chance to hear disturbance=1 at 300 yards for Per=12), while unperceptive ones will have serious trouble hearing small disturbances even if they're in contact with the source (for Per=1, disturbance=1, they get it on 4- if in contact). However, the great disparity in range of detection between low and high Perception characters is now gone -- the difference between Perception 2 and Perception 12 (for the same probability of detection) is roughly 1/2 mile, for reasonably large disturbances. Note that this isn't proposed canon (yet -- though Elizabeth would like an alternative to the existing disturbance rules).
