It was interesting: The new Roarke is a lot harder-edged than the previous model. It also led to some interesting speculations on my part: Will brother Roddy reprise his role as the Devil? Will, instead, John Glover from 'Brimstone' possibly make an appearance, given ABC and Fox's history of such collabs? Is Roarke perhaps more malefic than we expect? I'd say it could be a good show with a little work. And Cupid, as I've said, is pretty good too. Jeremy Piven's got enough attitude to carry it off. "Fame? They had cable on Mount Olympus, then?" I wouldn't call the entire city crime-ridden and relatively dangerous, though large portions of it certainly are. Washington D.C., otoh, has areas that are much worse within blocks of the White House. If you have access to Pyramid you can also read the playtest files for the Tethers book, in which you'll find a number of proposed (e.g., likely to become canon) Tethers in Washington D.C. - -David ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Sep 1998 13:53:59 +0100 From: Julian Breen Subject: Re: IN> Lilith's status In message , Heretic103@aol.com writes >In a message dated 9/21/98 2:01:06 AM Central Daylight Time, Samovar3@aol.com >writes: > ><< Following this line of thought would mean that Lilith > could injure or kill mortals without the drawbacks that celestials normally > have. I wouldn't put violence beneath Lilith though. Whatever suits her mood and purposes I guess. If I'm getting my myths correct, (Jo? Earl? Em?) she was rumoured to strangle infants with her lovely long hair... So whats that? Bad PR? ;) If you want a spin on a darker way to play Lilith I'd recommend 'Romeo is Bleeding', starring Gary Oldman and Juliet Lewis. All you have to do is watch the character of Mona (Lena Olin), and you'll *never* view Lilith as cute ever again. ;) She is the perfect embodiment of the infernal aspects of the Word of Freedom. Read that as more; 'Freedom for Myself At All Costs'. Her scheming was delightfully self-centred and very warped. Watch the gruesome lengths that she will go to in order to fake her own death... Hooks and geasa abound. Wait for the one that starts; 'Do you want to buy yourself some time..?' ;) To top this all off, there are also some very nice scenes involving (appropriately) *handcuffs*... - -- Julian ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Sep 1998 10:47:04 EDT From: Samovar3@aol.com Subject: IN> The Fifth Trumpet I've got a question about this part of The Final Trumpet. Explanations were given for the angels, but none were given for the demons (space limitations I would guess). I can't see Andrealphus or Lilith voting for it, no matter what threats are brought against them. S. I have some observations myself... >The island itself could easily be a Tether, probably to Creation. It can >be anything, be anywhere, and provide anything. Keep in mind that it's the *new* Fantasy Island, integrate the changes between the two series, and you get a slightly different take on it all. In the original series, Roddy McDowell made a few guest appearances as Lucifer. Back in the days of the original series, R. Montalban's Mr. Roarke wore a white suit. R. McDowell's Lucifer wore a black suit. In the new series. M. McDowell's Mr. Roarke wears a black suit. Coincidence? I doubt it. I could concoct a scenario in which the island isn't necessarily a tether, but a *construct* maintained by Mr. Roarke, who has slipped slightly and is in some danger of Tripping or perhaps even Falling. This would explain, for instance, why little elements of the island's reality have started getting out of kilter. Ariel as a Lilim? Certainly possible, though I don't think she's gone properly bright yet. She may be there helping out Mr. Roarke, or just pushing his buttons and seeing which way he'll ultimately go. As for the two servants, let's assume there's a Lilim in the mix. She owes Mr. Roarke for something big, and they are just two schmoes who got tangled up in her web of geasa. All this I think accounts for the darker mood. I've just started laying the groundwork for an online Baltimore sourcebook, laid out similarly to the existing sourcebooks, with personalities and the like. And, for >that matter, what did Jean do before electricity? Gabriel is in charge >of inspiration, so that doesn't leave a lot of metaphorical Lightning >left. Any ideas? As for what lightning represented before electricity, a clue to this can be found in the Angelic Players Guide, pg. 46. The Malakite Barbiel, a very old Servitor of Jean, holds the world of Divine Wrath. Considering the Saraphim Council's policies concerning Word Bound angels serving under Archangels with whose words theirs are associated with, it's reasonable to assume that Divine Wrath and Lightning were (and possably still are) related in some strong literal or metaphoric sense.. though I tend to suspect that Barbiel has worked closely with servitors of Fire on many occasions. As for Jean himself, note on page 73 that Jean has no compunctions whatsoever about representing himself as electricity in its most primal state. If asked, he'd probably give a long and drawn-out speech about how many lightning storms are occuring on Earth at any given moment, the potential of it's power if harnessed (and the inability to mankind to truly channel the power of lightning.) As an electrician myself, I can see an Elohite representing electricial power. Electricity is a dispassionate force that follows very precise rules, and God help you if you lack the proper respect for it. Lightning is a good reminder that we really havn't tamed that power, no matter how much use we make of it. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Sep 1998 14:27:51 PDT From: "Ihsan Blackthorne" Subject: IN> Attunements...
