Aside from the physical connection, it works well on a metaphorical level. While Flowers represents peace, love, nonviolent activism, Thorns represent passive defenses that hurt anyone who tries to get close. They isolate one being from another, much as a demon is isolated from the Symphony and all other beings. Thorns would cover all sorts of things, from paranoia to small barbs that don't seem like much at the time but which continue to annoy one for a long time to distant, unreachable beauty (of a flower, for instance) guarded by harsh cruelty. It's quite likely that a Fallen Novalis would either get along with Malphas, or enter a power struggle with him, due to the significant degree of overlap present. (Not that I view Novalis as even remotely close to the possibility of a Fall; even if everyone else fell, she'd probably be the last one left in heaven, gently chiding everyone and trying to get them to come back.) - -- Santiago ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Nov 1999 18:13:15 +1100 From: bichwa@telstra.easymail.com.au Subject: Subject: IN> Falling Archangels (Yves) I like it! Now, to bring this kicking and _screaming_ back into In Nomine: Since the topic of 'End of Days' seems to be on everyone's brain (something to do with their _erronious_ assumtion that this is the end of the Millenium; when in fact we have a full _year_ until the actual end of the Millenium), why not look at alternate versions of the Final Battle. Thus far, I have had a renegade demon of Fate attempt to destroy the symphony (in a mad scheme to recreate it in his image) by ressurecting Legion -- When in truth God and Lucifer made a little bet. . . Then I had Gabriel blow two of the Horns during a week in the lives of 4 Celestials, but Armegeddon was averted when Marc and Lilith sat down together. . . Finally, Abbaddon, Celestial (it was uncertain if he was a Demon, Angel or _other_, like Yves and Kronos) of the End. He got tired of waiting, and let a renegade Malakite of Fire (who happened to know the Song that destroyed Soddem and Gomora) start the beginning of the End for him. . . The Four Horseman were not far behind. Since I've had three seperate games all dealing with an apocalyptic theme, I've decided my next game has no such evil-vile thing happening. (Besides which, once you see the end of the world 'Holy War' style, everything else pales by comparrison.) Well... You might want to take a look at Alan Moore's "Promethea", published by America's Best Comics. Good in its own right, and also as a source for IN ideas. Issue #2 has two demons who act (IMO) exactly as demons would act if they were on a one-shot short-term mission and didn't care about disturbing the Symphony. In fact, they fit IN rather well... one Djinn and the other is either a Cal or a Habbalite. Promethea herself can be seen as an ethereal spirit bound to a particular human. Although you could probably play her as a *very* odd Kyrio. Also worth a look: anything by Grant Morrison. A conspiracy-oriented campaign could find endless inspiration in his "Invisibles" title. And his latest issue of "Justice League" has a weapon -- the Mageddon warhead -- that would fit nicely as a collaboration between Vapula and Malphas (think "hate bomb"). I actually have (somewhere in the mess that surrounds me) a hard copy write up of Novalis Demon Princess of Thorns, however its from a weird campein I ran in which every Superior was on the other side (Michael lead the origional Fall, Lilith was recruited by Heaven when Lucifer showed her what was happening to the World, Uriel went with Michael and their are seemingly unredemable demons). Anyway when I thought about her actually Falling in the normal in-nomine universe I just couldn't see it happening. I'd saw Laurence would Fall before Novalis does. So the only way it would happen is a huge enough shift in her world view to shake her from her Word. So I figured she'd have to start thinking all she's been doing is hiding corruption, and thus helping it continue unchekced, and thus when she Falls because of this that is the Word that Lucifer gives her and that she fufills. That explains why I wrote it that way. I'm curious if anyone has comments on the attunements/distinctions/etc that I put with the Word of Corruption run by a subtler prince than Legion. Pokemon, Nybbas and Mammon's new project, with whoever runs Cruelty thrown in. Let's read into it. Lil' kid has this cute bun-bun thing that's his "best friend". yet what does he -do- with it the lil' animal?...GLADIATORIAL COMBAT! It's like cartoon cock or dog fights. Let's pursue this further. Suddenly, an epidemic of kids getting their cute, fluffy pets of all sorts to fight it out in after school arenas. Pokemon cards sell like mad, Nybbas and Mammon delights, and the children are being -conditioned- early on to accept self-serving cruelty at the expense of their "friends". Release a veritable swarm of Shedim to "nudge" the kids into only -slightly- worse acts, and you have the most sustained, concentrated assault on Jordi and Christopher of all time. - - Abracax: Shedite of Riots ------------------------------ End of in_nomine-digest V1 #1392 ******************************** The material here is (C) 1999 Steve Jackson Games, Incorporated.
