The ramifacation of such a change are obvious; we can not truly >even be in the 1999 as yet. Actually, Augustus just changed the names of two months. Yes, ceasar re-organised the calender, but as it says: "Caesar next turned his attention to domestic reforms. First he reorganised the calender which the College of Priests had allowed to fall into such disorder, by inserting days or months as it suited them, that the harvest and vintage festivals no longer correspondd with the appropriate seasons. He linked the year to the course of the sunby lengthening it to 365 days, abolishing the short extra month and adding an entire day every fourth year. But to make the next first of January fall in the right season, he drew out this particular year (46 BC) by two extra months, inserted between November and December, so that it consisted of fifteen, including the intercalary one inserted after Febuary in the old style." (Kris hugs Suetonius - The Twelve Caesars, which isn't just tabloid filth) The 365 and 1/4 day year is actually known as the solar year, because it's the time it takes for the sun to return to a position. It's not a solely roman invention either - most civilisations with even a basic grasp of astrology used it, for example, the Sumerians, Babylonians, Mayans, Greeks, Aztecs, Chinese, etc. all used it, although not all of tehm got the 1/4 thing. >> Finally, Abbaddon, Celestial (it was uncertain if he was a Demon, Angel >> or _other_, like Yves and Kronos) of the End. "And they had a king over them, Which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon" Revelation 9: 11 (Kris hugs the bible, is tempted to repeat his Suetonius comment, but doesn't.) >"Soddem" is actually spelt Sodom, and is the root for sodomy (see similar hey), this is >because men would lay with both other men and animals, not only their wives, in the >town of Sodom. I think you mean "Astronomy". (Oh great and puissant Demon princess...that count for Nitpicking Essence?) Also, for Sodom, it wasn't just animals and other men...the people there wanted to sleep with the pack of -angels- that visited Lot. Also, Lot -did- offer his daughters to a few of them (will find chapter and verse). - - Abracax: Shedite of Riots ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Nov 1999 04:27:28 -0800 From: "Jace" Subject: IN> Dodging vs. resisting I have some questions about dodge. On P. 66 of the core book, it describes dodging Vs. resisting. it says very clearly their is something called resisting, but nowhere I can find does it go into what resisting is. It says on P. 78 that songs can not be resisted or dodged. Is their anything else that can't be dodged or resisted? (whatever resisting is?) Thank you very much in advance Jace ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Nov 1999 04:44:59 -0800 From: "Jace" Subject: IN> Itty-Bitty Pistol I've been looking at the gun Nicole used in the story at the beginning of the Core book. If I'm reading it right it has the power of the check digit multiplied by the artifact level. But here's the point I'm making. . . The pistol is only artifact level one, so even if she hit with a 6 check digit, 6 multiplied by 1 is 6. So she only got a max possible damage of 12. A normal gun could do that (Maybe not a pistol). I don't see how it could have killed the Demon Adam with one shot. Is this right? Or am I missing something, I'm afraid that I'm playing something wrong and the holy pistols do a lot more damage that I suspect. I would appreciate if someone would correct me. Unofficial plug: check out Where Angels Fear To Tread, at http://www.meta-earth.com/nomine/ethereal/index.html - it's a good resource for Ethereal campaigns. It's also linked on the Unofficial Sites page, in case I typed that address wrong. :) As far as an EPG goes... oddly enough, I don't see it on the survey list, and I don't remember whether it was even included. It seems to be a popular idea, though. - -EDG it's been a long morning.
