He should have seen from the start that the Ethereals were a threat to the Destiny of humans, both as individuals and as nations. He should have counciled the Seraphim Council, helping them to at least *understand* why I called and led the Crusade. But he did nothing. Instead he just sat there, all "heavy-hearted" and worrying about the Destiny of Heaven. Yes, I still wonder and worry about which side he's *really* on. Maybe Heavenly Law doesn't treat accomplices as bad as some Earthly laws. On this principle, Dominic may have went after Yves on a lesser charge and actually got him on it. S. Thank you. Im my campaign, it's one of Eli's reasons for going absentee from Heaven. He wanted to lure one of the Princes, preferably Belial (Asmodeus as his second choice,) into a small but very strong Domain he'd created in the Marches, where there was no exit unless you made one. Eli can exit the place trivially ("create door.") Janus or Lilith would have been out just as easily. Saminga would have been in there indefinitely. Lucifer would have been out in a couple of minutes to hours - -- he's significantly stronger than Eli, and somewhat creative, but his creativity is more given to twisting things than to creating them from scratch, and he's not incomparibly stronger than Eli (minutes if he exerted a lot of effort to force his way through; hours if he thought his way through.) The other Princes would have been in there for days to months, which is plenty of time for Eli to arrive, fight a trapped Prince, and leave without them if he started to lose. No one thinks of Eli as a warrior. He isn't by preference. But "Creation" is a Word as strong as any, and creation includes some very helpful tricks in war. Belial was especially desireable because Eli *likes* Fire, especially the aspects of Fire Gabriel now prefers not to emphasize, such as inspiration. And he was especially vulnerable because Belial is especially susceptible to water and Eli *isn't* especially susceptible to fire. ("Create water," anyone? Create *lots* of water.) It wasn't all that Eli was up to, by a long shot, but we figured that he ought to have one highly unsubtle plot going on together with all of the convoluted ones. On a related note, Eli was aiding and abetting Nybbas in another Domain right next door. You see, creativity can be *extremely* addictive if you've got the right personality for it, and Eli wanted to persuade him to mainline it by providing a steady supply in useful forms that would persuade him to imbibe. Eli *also* figured that sooner or later Nybbas would either succumb to curiosity and investigate the Domain next door or decide to play both ends against the middle and persuade an enemy Prince to investigate it. Why, yes, Nybbas floated the rumors to Belial. Lucifer quit, Mephistophiles made it down to the Lower Hells and absorbed some of his power, and there was a turf war going on between Mephistophiles and the Shal-Mari crew (minus Haagenti, who'd been reduced to Duke) and Asmodeus, Kronos, and Baal. Nybbas was backing Shal-Mari, Belial was backing Baal. Nybbas figured that Eli would trap Belial and at least get him out of the way for a while; if not, well, that Domain had no signs of the Eli/Nybbas connection because Nybbas had never *been* there. So Belial got caught, Eli arrived to fill the Domain with water, there was a *massive* disturbance in the Symphony, then Eli arrived at a Seraphim Council meeting discussing Lucifer's resignation, *horribly* burnt. Eli gave his pager to Michael ("I'm sorry, Eli is not available for summoning at the moment. Think 'yes' if you would like to summon Michael." ;-)), his vote on Council to Yves, and Novalis hauled him off to the Grove to heal before Dominic could start interrogating him. Mind, Dominic *did* eventually talk to Eli, but after Eli had just drowned a Prince, Dom was willing to accept minimal assurances. But the concept of a three-Archangel conspiracy is more amusing.
