Also, what happens if a -pack- of Shedim find out about this challenge and try to hop in all at once? Since you say that powers like the Shedite and Balseraph Resonances will only work on one personality, can this single being act as a home for as many Shedim as she has personalities? Glad you think it's interesting. And hey -- it's a plot seed, not canon. If you don't like it, don't use it; if you like only some parts of it, use those and change the rest. >How >could these personalities trap a Kyriotate unless it shoved all its Forces in >at once? It would still have some free and probably be rather upset. Hence the title, "Tar Baby". Several ways you could play this. One, it's all stuck, period. That would be my preferred method. Two, the other forces are stunned, but can eventually recover and try to take some action. However, if you allow this, then they'll communicate the situation and quickly give the whole game away. So, two - (a), they're completely incoherent fom psychic shock for (days x Karl's check digit), and/or two - (b), whenever they try to do something that could possibly threaten Bobbie Jean (like tell anyone about her), Karl gets another Contest of Wills and may trap another Force. This could result in the Kyrio having to try subtlety... "Hey, lookit that cockroach. [crunch] Gee, it almost looked like it was trying to write something, didn't it?" I sort of like the image of a Kyrio flailing around like a man with one foot caught in a trap. It's simpler to play if you just suck him in altogether, of course. >Also, what >happens if a -pack- of Shedim find out about this challenge and try to hop in >all at once? Ye cats, man, I don't know. I don't think they usually run in packs! My gut reaction is, they'd overload her somehow. I suspect you'd end up with BJ dead or permanently insane, though the Sheds might take some lumps in the process... details left to the GM's imagination. >Since you say that powers like the Shedite and Balseraph >Resonances will only work on one personality, can this single being act as a >home for as many Shedim as she has personalities? Don't think so. The personalities work together, you see, like the pieces of a trap sliding into place. > Can a Balseraph -keep- using >its Resonance on all of the personalities like it might with a crowd of >people? Sure. A really sick Balseraph (and what other kind is there?) might amuse itself by convincing different personalities of different "truths". >-Why- can Karl bat Songs away? Bit powerful for a fragment of a human mind. One, *because* he's a fragment. He's incredibly, inhumanly focussed -- Will 11, Perception 1. Protecting Bobbie Jean is all he does, so he's really good at it. Two, remember, Karl and the others evolved because BJ was abused by a Shedite. So there was powerful pressure to bring forth whatever natural psychic defenses might have lurked in potential form. Three (if you like), perhaps she has Grigori blood. About 13 or 14, now, and they're on their third edition rulebook. I advise getting a slang French dictionary to go with your more normal one -- I know I needed mine. There's also the _Stella Inquisitoris_ spinoff, set 5000 years in the future, where things have got _really_ bad -- but I don't see SJG adapting that one. ;) Space opera meets Warhammer meets repressive Catholic theocracy and demonic federation. Some Archangels have faded into the background (Novalis was never the same after he had to hand over all his drugs) and others have gone over the top (Laurence always appears as a big blond heroic type these days). If INS/MV is dark, SI is so dark it's scary. But still very witty. INS/MV does have a reasonable continuity, actually, and a continuing timeline. I'm looking forward to see where they go with the subplot about Andrealphus being pregnant by Baal... - --- Genevieve Cogman maya@tcp.co.uk `Ce n'est qu'en travaillant que les ides viennent' (Sade) ("It is only through working that ideas come") ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jul 1999 16:51:44 -0400 From: Elizabeth McCoy Subject: IN> 2 IN Playtests Those of you with Pyramid subscriptions should know that Superiors 1 is up for playtest, whilest the Game Master's Guide should go up Real Soon Now. To be removed, just email tvmoto@bigfoot.com - -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Every Citizen deserves to know the truth and the facts about the Y2K computer problem. Many governmental officials have spoken to the public on the topic of Y2K for the purpose of not creating any panic to the communities. Unfortunately, this governmental approach on the problem is provoking a passive attitude and creating a false sense of security within Citizens with respect to this extremely vital issue! Do not be deceived! How much do you really know about the year 2000 computer crisis? Take a look at the following statements made by the U.S. Senator Robert F. Bennett (R-Utah), Chairman of the Senate Special Committee on the Year 2000 Technology Problem: "The financial services industry is particularly susceptible to the Year 2000 problem. Without reliable systems... interest could be miscalculated, stock trades could vanish, and customers could have difficulty accessing their account balances or their credit cards." The Year 2000 problem -- or the inability of computers to recognize dates beyond 1999 -- could potentially cause national and worldwide computer systems to shut down or make major mistakes at the beginning of the next century". "While I do hope the FAA is doing as well as it says, experience has taught me to be suspicious of easy answers and quick fixes," he added. "One example is the recent overstatement by the Department of Defense, exposed when its Inspector General reported that 70 percent of the mission critical systems the department deemed to be Y2K compliant were, in fact, not." Take a look at the following statement relating to the business community: "Businesses that fail to properly correct their systems could be committing corporate suicide," Bennett said. "The biggest Y2K headache of all could be the legal fees and lawsuits that cripple America's employers and working people long after the Y2K bug has been chased from computer hardware and software."
