Though this may go without saying, because of the area where Jesus was supposedly born and raised, he would've been extremely dark-skinned, and it's entirely possible that the little side-note in Dogma that Jesus was black would be true. Rook understands that every Malakim wants to use this attunement and possess it but he'll only give it to a angel who proves he is as much of a "tough hombre" (or any of his variety of euphemisms) as he is and willing to put it to good use. Special Rites: * Drive a diabolical from the Earth or the body of an innocent Rook is a very old, very respected angel and he knows it. Orginally a servant of Uriel long before the Purity Crusade and even Fall he was devoted chiefly to the study of the mortal soul and the applications of it to seeking a higher plane of existence. Given most mortals before the Fall where more concerned about beating each other over the head with jawbones and painting bison on the wall rather than ensuring their spiritual well being this wasn't exactly the most fufilling job in the Symphony. When the Fall came Rook got angry but he was more confused than anything and thus didn't turn into a Malakim as his perfect lord did. The forces of hell were banished and thus were no longer a concern to Heaven or the Mortal regions. Then Lilith had to come around and @^@* it all up. Rook watched diabolicals, ethereals, and numerous other beings prey upon the Earth working their foul deeds upon the planet without a shred of remorse or check to their actions but what the angels could themselves throw up. Still one of Uriel's more scholarly servants Rook eventually did the unthinkable and taught Judaic soldiers sorcery that he had managed to learn the process's of for his millenial study of the human soul. Uriel nearly destroyed his servant on the spot for taking such presumption but realized that unlike the Ethereals pagan magicks or even the foul powers imparted to beings and from beings like Saminga and Beezlebub, his sorcery was a took of holy men to driving out the forces of Hell from the material world. Uriel was not so insane then and forgave his servitor and even imparted a great deal of songs, prestige, and even petitioned the Council sucessfully for the word of this act....though the sorcerors he had taught were always watched carefully. Rook has gradually over the centuries gotton increasingly angry with the forces of Lucifer and their continued deprivations on the Cosmos and has added the undead (a foul a corruption as any of the human soul Rook has ever seen). His word did not simply encompass the white sorcery of Excorcism but also the innate need to drive evil from the Cosmos which burned strongly across the Symphony and has only occasionally abated since. During the Purity Crusade Rook gained a great deal of martial experience as he lead soldiers to hunt down and execute pagan sorcerers and spread the magicks he had created among the new Catholic Church in hopes of gaining great power to eliminate the forces of darkness forever....such did not happen but his tomes and teachings survive amongst those he imparted on him to this day. When Uriel was recalled to Heaven Rook gladly pledged fealty to the man whom he had known as a whipper snap but was greatly touched by God...and known for his carving up of demons. Currently Rook is reaching a crossroads in his existence as he discovers the War is growing increasingly frustrating for him with it's stalemate....and the fact Hell just keeps getting stronger it seems. Rook is even juggling three roles as he plays the ever absent theologians on two continents who only show up for book appearences and answer infrequently the many messages on their machines. Laurence has indeed considered reassigning Rook's two groups to servants who can devote more time to the important roles but is afraid of offending Rook and not yet sure any of his servitors are qualified enough to take over the Seraph's position among them. Rook's third role is nothing more than a battle hardened cynic whom he uses to wage war with his companion's on diabolical tethers and places of the undead. Rook has even wracked up dissonance that would have gotton him killed under Uriel by "exceeding" the orders of Laurence. In truth Rook is working on (aside from going Wild Bunch on as many demons, undead, hellsworn, and ethereals...and don't give him that garbage that the ethereals are any better than demons...to relieve stress) studying the essence and composition of Hell and the power of sorcery. Lilith wasn't yet a demon princess when she figured out a way to release Lucifer and his cronies from Hell...a way might yet exist to banish demons back to Hell...and this time for good. At worst they can seal up the place with the demons it has and slaughter slowly the one's here on Earth. With any luck the ones in Hell will kill each other off in no time. With his cronies he just might do it. On the Diabolical side: Rook is personally one of the angels that Baal, Kronos, and Lilith have personally promised great rewards to any demon which soul kills him but such has only lead to the opposite for hundreds of demons of every Prince in Hell who dislike him as one of the many "Demonic boogeymen" which are feared throughout Hell. Lilith's interest in stopping him is not yet verified but Hapitphas herself desires to destroy him but fear thus stays her hand...it is rumored the two used to be lovers or that Hapitphas was once a student or partner of his in studying the human soul with the joint Raphael, Yves, Uriel production. - -Charlemagne ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Jan 2001 17:23:06 -0500 From: "William J. An angel who fledged during the heyday of the sixties she was instantly smitten with a number of the charges under her care and encouraged them to reciprocate. Muriel personally saw no violation of the bond of trust formed between a cherub and a attunement and believed it was indeed fufilling a need for communion with them. Over a short time indeed Muriel contributed greatly to encouraging the sexuality of all those around her....including a number of incidents of adultery and other activities which a Domincian triad judged to be more of Andrephalus than of Novalis. Novalis came to her rescue however and in a rather odd trial before the Seraphim council argued that the freeing up of humanity's taboos about sexuality would do more to hurt Andrephalus than anything else...after all it is their shame and discouragement about such feelings which sent the essence to hell most. Novalis's blistering tirade ended with her promptly petitioning Muriel for a word and on a narrow majority she was given so on what seemed to be a whim. Muriel very pleased now to be a word bound has spent her time wandering mainly as she picks repressed or deeply ashamed individuals and more or less seduces them to be more confident and unabashed. Her lack of experience has unfortunately caused her not to make the most of her word and Novalis has assigned a remote Malakite named George to gaurd her who is also supposed to make sure she stays out of anything TOO extreme but has himself fallen for her and thus convienantly turns the other cheek in anything she does....though he's already destroyed a number of Andrephalus's demons who have tried to seduce (sucessfully or unsucessfully) Muriel. Muriel personally believes that Andre will lose large ammounts of his servitors if they are free to pursue their pleasures with corporality in peace...he too keeps them in shame she says. Thankfully none of these comments have gotton back to Andrephalus who already is very annoyed this young word bound exists and only his belief her fall is imminent is currently staying his hand from bigger guns, such as himself. Enticement: Muriel with the expenditure of three points of essence per candle involved can allow Muriel to create a set of herbal candles which requires at least two hours to make. These herbal candles fill a room with a series of springtime smells that cause those breathing them to become less resistant to the idea of expressing affection. For game purposes the ritual reduces a person's willpower for resisting suggestions of intimacy equal to Muriel's celestial forces and increases the difficulty to do any acts which are aggresive or unaffectionate by an equal ammount. Combined with Muriel's other songs and noted skills it is very difficult to resist her plans once she sets them in motion. He was likely going to fledge as a cherub before a breakin and murder of the artist just before his engaugement caused George to fledge as a Malakim. After putting the people who murdered his friend in the hospital by causing them to wreck their car, George repented of his sin and fledged fully as a Malakim swore oaths never to use more violence than was necessary....becomming more devoted to Novalis's ideal than even the servitors who normally pledge themselves to peace...and suffering twice more for breaking so. George is relatively easy going for a Malakite and has very little of the fanatical fervor seemingly that most Malakim openly display and seems content to mostly stand over Muriel when he detects trouble and look menacing. His vessel a dark man about six foot seven or so it's not that difficult to do so. He doesn't talk much but what he says generally is to the point and very soft spoken. He personally is deeply in love with Muriel and very shy about his feelings (the only real clue to them is loving sketches of her which he learned by watching his previous charge). Aphrodite isn't that discriminating. But Muriel would only use it to "loosen up" someone who's repressed and lonely. Still walking a very fine line for an angel, since seduction implies emotional coercion. - -David ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Jan 2001 19:30:49 -0800 (PST) From: Maurice Lane Subject: IN> January 4, 2001 This one's a bit of a reach, but what the heck. :) Moe Song of Evolution Only the Corporeal version is known. This Song is so new that calling it 'known' is a gross exaggeration: only one person can perform it (a rare non-Hellsworn Sorcerer / mad scientist). He somehow happened across the Song, and is now using it to evolve somewhat more intelligent beetles, blithely unaware that both Jordi and Vapula will do anything, up to and including personally coming to blows, in order to possess the Song. He will no doubt soon have plenty of excitement in his life. Corporeal This Song will actually change the DNA of a living, corporeal subject - for a little while. Sometimes, a little while is just long enough. The performer may either attempt to specify the change, or not. An unspecified change will cause the target to temporarily exhibit a changed genetic structure that is better suited for the immediate environment (whim of the GM, but the change should be more pronounced in dangerous environments). By making a Will Roll, the performer may specify a specific alteration: use the check digit of the Will Roll to determine how close the change is to the performer's desire. A 1 would indicate a mild success, while a 6 would be precisely what the performer envisioned. Use the check digit of the Song Roll to determine how obvious the change is; a 1 is grotesquely obvious, and a 6 is completely hidden. Duration is usually for 1 hour, and may be sustained for half cost. However, an Intervention will cause the change to become permanent: determining whether it is favorable or unfavorable depends on the target's point of view, not that of the performer. Note that this Song only changes the DNA, not the body: for example someone drowning will not suddenly sprout gills. This would make the Song effectively useless, except for an interesting side effect: if the target engages in sexual reproduction while affected by this Song, any offspring produced will permanently have the new genetic structure. This Song is thus perfect for improving species (which is why Jordi will want it), or turning them into monsters (guaranteed to spark Vapula's interest). Also, a successful use of the Celestial Song of Form on the target will allow the new adaptations to surface, for the duration of the Song of Evolution. Bonus: Animals, Technology Essence Requirement: 5 Essence per Force of the target. Half cost to maintain. A swarm of insects is considered to have 1 Force. Degree of Disturbance: the check digit times the target's Forces. ===== In Nomine stuff: http://www.stormloader.com/users/moelane/innomine.html Last updated 11/25/00 (this is usually way out of date) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The Spear of Longinus also known as Lilith's tale The first adventure will take place in the Garden of Eden before the Fall with the players taking the part of God's caretakers and messangers. IMC the Garden of Eden is not so much created for mankind so much as it is was for Celestials to understand what makes humanity tick and why they among all other members of God's creatures will be favored as his greatest creation. During the adventure I have planned the Seraph and Lilith will be cursed with feelings for each other which Lucifer is even then manipulating. If the PCs desire it so after the Fall they may spend the rest of their time either in Eden where they will witness and perhaps slay Ophis at the foot of the Tree of Knowledge in the first act of kinslaying or follow Lilith around protecting her as the Seraph is forbidden by the Metratron to express his love again. The next adventure takes place during the Fall and will be unrelated to Lilith whatsoever as NPCs and friends turn against them and they battle against the new demons in heaven as eventually the dissonance and pain they suffer drives Lucifer to defeat and Michael tosses his red arse out of Heaven through a hole created by God that demons follow through. The adventure after such will be devoted around Lilith and Hell as we discover that Lilith has been spending much of her time in the ethereal lands among the primordial spirits and creating the First magic from what she learned from the Garden of Eden (songs mostly) The Seraph and Lilith will be reunited briefly as they have an arguement as she has come to view God as a tyrant for opposing the forces of Hell's free will as they did her (second hand stories favored greatly along with the words of Lucifer as she viewed Hell with her magic) Likely a big fight ensues Next all Hell will break loose (LITERALLY) in the Marches as Blandine's tower is annhilated by a torrent of demons and the host of Hell as Beleth raises her tower in the Marches as the first Ethereal Hellish tether and Lucifer conscecrates the first tether to himself on Earth with the First murder....casting open the gates of Hell forever. Lilith with her knowledge of the universe managed to break the seal with her great will and thus allowed them free.. To which Lucifer crowns her the Princess of Freedom. Needless to say the PCs will take a licking and the Seraph will be heartbroken. The story will take a different turn with the next adventure which is set about twenty thousand years later with the PCs asked by Gabriel's servants to act as heralds for the newborn King over a little barn in Bethelem. The PCs will be required to watch but not interfere with the man as he conducts his ministry....even when he is to be crucified.... Though Gabrielle or the PCs will condemn Longinus the killer after the crucifiction (I'll juggle some facts with a demon sighting inside) and fudge a divine intervention roll which will curse him as the PCs are asked by a spirit in a vision to gaurd well the Spear and what it will mean for mankind. The next adventure takes place as the PCs are given a few brief scenes where they must deposit the spear in worthy hands from Constantine to the Crusaders for a bloodless victory over the Moors until the spear will be lost in the Battle against Legion where Lilith will attempt to seduce the Seraph into giving it up in the aftermath. Either he won't give it up (hopefully) or Michael will drive her off. The next adventure will then pick up in the Modern Era where Baal has suceeded in stealing the Spear of Longinus for Adolf Hitler in exhange for Lilith giving up her support of freedom around, he has promised her after it is done it will be hers....though she may be intending to betray Baal and destroy the Fascists....or that may be wishful thinking. Baal's soldier Heidrich presents it to the warlord for world domination. The PCs are given an assignment of Nazi bashing in some serious pulp fun as they must deliver the spear to General Patton who will promptly win the war because of it....throw in Longinus and other weirdos and a really good time emerges. If they suceed they must THEN substitute a fake for Patton after the war and the Austrian government and give it to a soldier of Laurence Cardinal who hides it under the Vatican. The final adventure is in present day as they discover the Spear has been stolen by a renegade Demon under the now immensley powerful sorceror Longinus's dominion as he intends to present it to Lilith to be "freed from Life." in truth Longinus has been promised to be Prince Of Slavery if he uses the weapon to slay Lilith which the power of Hell will has gaurenteed to fail her for any blow from the Spear of Destiny. Not sure how it will end but I have a number of possible scenarios. Several options come to mind. In a realistic world, the truck would stop, undamaged, and probably bounc back a fair distance. The Ofanite would slam against the indestructible windshield of his truck. The Ofanite, presumably, would be damaged. In a comic-book world, the same thing would happen, but the Malakite would discover that while he can't be separated from the runway, the runway can be separated from the rest of the ground. He would be sent flying through the air, with a surprised look on his face, and a chunk of runway stuck to his feet. In a cartoon world, the Earth would be knocked out of its orbit, or sped up to the point that a day was now twenty hours. Both angels would receive a certain amount of discord as evidence of God's opinion on such hijinks. And the truck would look and sound like an accordion for a few moments. If I had the misfortune to try and GM this, I'd go with the second option, as fitting IN more closely, then I'd have Jean take away the artifact truck until the Ofanite gets a little more serious about the job. As for the Malakite? Depends on why the Stony got involved in this little stunt. (The Eighth Virtue is Moe's idea. The rest is a product of my own insanity. Make of it what you will.) Not to be confused with the Redeemed, The Redeemers are a trio of angels--some have called them the most unlikely of comrades--who make it their business to find Renegade demons, and through guile, diplomacy, and Archangelic attunements, harry said Renegades into Redemption. The Redeemers are a recent item within the celestial grape-vine (as far as that goes), but talk is that they are founded and led by a Malakite of War who's taken an extreme view (for a Malakite of War, that is), and further, that one of his Oathes is "I will kill a demon only as a last resort." Michael suspects his Virtue--those among the Groves have heard of Noriel--of subversion by Flowers, and would take exception to this, as Noriel is old, experienced, and Distinguished. So why hasn't Michael raised a fuss? The answer lies partly in the identity of the other two The Redeemers: Selene, Seraph of Flowers, and Dru (he answers to no other name, as that is what his Bright Lady named him), Ofanite of Fire. The rest of the answer is in Noriel's effectiveness at finding Renegades, keeping Renegade- hunters off the potential new angel's back, and talking a Renegade so thoroughly into Redemption that they haven't had a casualty yet. Yet. Or so the rumor goes. Typically (or at least, from what was discerned at the last meeting of The Eighth Virtue), Dru goes scouting for those fleeing justice (Gamesters point to this with ironic pride as justification that Renegades are doing The Wrong Thing), and when he discovers a Blasted One (as he calls demons), he alerts his fellow Redeemers, and they go on a merry chase (one drunken Makakite has been quoted as saying, "I didn't know Seraphim could get car sick!"). When they catch the poor Renegade, the first thing The Redeemers set about doing is disabling or removing any others chasing their quarry. The second is to abscond with the demon to a random location (Dru is *good* for random--just try to steer him away from reinforced concrete walls) where Selene can "talk sense into it." Demons refusing The Redeemers' services find themselves flung out of moving vehicles at high rates of speed, and to date, none have seen the trio since--it's how Asmodeus has been keeping up with The Redeemers' activities. Help from The Redeemers is a one-time deal. Stonies argue this is as it should be. Demons mutter that if God is so forgiving, why then do these angels offer only one chance at repentence? Renegades willing to hear out The Redeemers in payment for a "bold and swift rescue" find themselves handcuffed to Selene while she discourses at length about the love of God, and forgiveness of Heaven if the poor wretch of a demon will just repent of its evil ways and turn its heart to God--which she does with zeal and sincerity and mind-numbing long-windedness to which only a Seraph can aspire. Attentive Renegades notice not just Selene's aura of peace, not just her words, but also... a distinct lack of other headhunters. Gabrielites are acutely aware of the count-down that starts when they find their mark and ends when they've either punished the cruel or Dissonance has seared them. Non-Gabrielites are not nearly so aware, nor as sympathetic. On their first run, as the mavens tell it, Noriel Will-shackled Dru, lead him away from Selene, and faced him in the direction of the oncoming Hellsworn and demonic headhunters. Watching Dru convulsively attack wave after wave of Gamesters and other demons set on the Renegade's scalp to vent his spleen with only (yes, "only") Noriel for back- up as Selene talks the Redemption Candidate into the process is, if nothing else, entertaining (Hypothetically speaking, at any rate: all angels to which the invitation has gone out to assist The Redeemers in one of their rescue/redemptions have been too busy watching out for Selene, the prospective angel, and each other to really marvel at Dru). It's also something which has gotten him Distincted from Michael, and rumor also has it that he's been politely asked to the Groves to tutor certain less stout of Michael's angels. When asked, Dru has smirked, remarking, "If I'd known what Selene was going to do to those poor Renegades, Noriel wouldn't have needed the Will-Shackles." Noriel only grins; Selene tends to roll her eyes. When the dust has cleared and Selene deems the Renegade "safely converted", The Redeemers invoke not one, not two, but all three of their respective Archangels. Demons whisper the first time was a fluke, but rumors persist that ever since, never have Gabriel, Michael, and Novalis ignored or refused The Redeemers' invocation. Demons protected by The Redeemers have not gone through Redemption without all three Archangels present. Fire gutters and flares as is Gabriel's wont, but she has left an indelible mark upon The Redeemers. What this means is uncertain, but all three have been sighted in her Volcano. For his part, Michael isn't complaining. Demons who are now angels are a plus in two regards, and Michael has insisted that he debrief each new angel Redeemed in such a manner. Intelligence alone is worth something, yes, but the Host has begun pondering, where do these Redeemers angels *go?* Said question doesn't find an answer from the Archangel of War, that much is certain. Novalis seems to be taking all this in stride--her Servitor is bringing the Light of Heaven to demons in desperate need of love, care, and forgiveness, and so far The Redeemers have not failed. If only there weren't so many demons insistant upon keeping those Renegades from Heaven's Light. If only it weren't necessary so often to vessal kill them. Well, at least there are new angels in Heaven, right? Rumors persist that The Redeemers remain conspicuously free of dissonance and Discord (at least, ever since the first run), but Asmodeus scoffs at this, and has instructed his agents to be on the look out for a trio in a fast car when accompanied by a Renegade. For the time being, sources in Hell say, The Game is assessing these new players; when their full measure is taken, there will be... reprisals. It's common knowledge that Baal wants The Redeemers Fallen or Soul-killed on general principle. What hasn't circulated the rounds so thoroughly is that Valefor has taken an interest in the Redeemers: something to do with Eli, a certain Renegade, and The Redeemers' last car.... - ------ -=|horsefly|=- ------------------------------ End of in_nomine-digest V1 #2005 ******************************** The material here is (C) 2001 Steve Jackson Games, Incorporated.
