Winter CES Photos

Here's a few photos I took at Las Vegas' Winter Consumer Electronics Show, Jan. 6-9,1995:

An array of portable CD players to lure buyers of home electronics from around the world.

Car audio is a big part of the CES, and the manufacturers try to outdo each other with the flashiest (and loudest) custom auto. This purple mini-truck's cargo bed was completely filled with nothing but pre-amps, amplifiers, and the batteries to run them.

This reproduction of the medieval torture device called an Iron Maiden (not to be confused with the heavy metal band of the same name) was part of the display that promoted the computer game The Journeyman Project.

Another promo for The Journeyman Project, this power armor stood about seven feet high.

Estimates of CES attendance ran in the 90,000 to 100,000 range. I believe it. Here's what must have been half of them trying to get through a single door.

Those funny guys Penn & Teller mug for the camera after a press conference plugging their Absolute Entertainment game, Penn & Teller's Smoke & Mirrors. Look for the Sega CD this spring, CD-ROM later in the year.

The center of the Nintendo display at CES, in all its glory. It's hard not to make comparisons with some sort of weird cross between a religious temple and a casino -- think about it.
