I don't know what's more frightening, the geas/6 that was invoked to get Christopher Walken to appear in the movie Prophecy 3 or the geas/1 that was invoked to get me to watch it. Much like Highlander, there should have been only one. Do you see the depths I have sunk to waiting for the In Nomine line to continue? Perhaps the Brass & Steel MUSH will provide a better distraction. * Crosses fingers * Query: am I the only one on the list on the West coast? Oh, truly. Especially if sleeping in an animal Vessel is sufficient to use his choir attunements - can you imagine flights of angels, plunging into Beleth's domain and soul-killing every human they find near her Tower? While has has style and skill, he lacks that "Vileness" that truly characterizes crime and criminals. When I look at Valefor's crew, I don't see mobsters, protection rackets, biker gangs or rapists. But with Genubath, I do. I see street gangs taking over a neighborhood and taking it over, effectively stealing it from it's inhabitants, forcing them to live in terror of them. I see The Mafia, under it's sophisticated exterior, being nothing more then a glorified, nation-wide street gang, owning whole cities like smaller gangs do cityblocks. I see criminals turn prisons into lairs of sin, where Prisonners turn on each other, stealing pride, dignity and life from one another with wild abandon. I'd honestly see Valefor as more of a Prince of Chaos then a Prince of Thiefs... Or maybe a Minor Prince under Genubath's shadow... Heck, if we go with the "Janus in disguise" option, wouldn't a Minor Prince make a better spy then a major one anyway? Or, if we keep the current chain of events... Maybe a former servitor of Genubath, old, powerful and bitter, decides to make the Big Score and tries to steal Valefor's action, aiming for the Princedom of Crime? - -Exit the LoneWolf ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Jan 2002 22:35:20 EST From: CsHoneyman@aol.com Subject: IN> I can't say I like Valefor much. The whole Valefor thing in Canon smacks of a lack of effort by the writers. Sorry writer guys, but he's just a mirror of Janus. And I _know_ that they're supposed to be somewhat similar due to Word-overlap, but the one is just a copy of the other. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's very little... feel... of the Word of Theft in the Valefor write-up. Nothing seems distinctly Theft-y. Nothing which shouts out "THIS IS MY WORD!" Just my take on it. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Jan 2002 20:02:55 -0800 (PST) From: Maurice Lane Subject: Re: IN> Hey Moe... - --- james walker wrote: > The last 'Tri-planar Convention' (on the long term > ramifications of the > Purity Crusade) was a couple of years ago now..when > are we due for the next > one? > > It would be nice to have a topic to get the creative > juices flowing...need > *something*... > > Cheers, James. > It was one year, and I'll announce the next one just as soon as I can figure out when I announced the first one (I want to reproduce the earlier style of the initial call for papers). Consider if you will that Valefor STOLE the persona of Janus. He has been known to steal a Word here and there. And since the Word of a celestial is as much its persona as its band/choir is, then yes, it would be possible to steal the persona of Janus. Also consider that Valefor might have stolen a spot of the heavenly spark. So instead of having just Kronos wired for sound, Valefor stole a peice of the Symphony. All in all, I believe that's what might have been part of what went through the minds of the writers. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Jan 2002 01:56:37 -0600 From: toadpooka@juno.com Subject: Re: IN> Re: in_nomine-digest V1 #2504 On Sat, 5 Jan 2002 10:29:08 -0500 "Rolland Therrien" writes: > > So do I. He embodies that nicely, and the depiction of him in Superiors 4 does touch on the darker aspects of Theft and how they relate to his (and his Servitors')personality. There's a difference between Valefor as he's seen in public and Valefor as he really is; he's probably one of the most two-sided Princes out there (along with Nybbas). Personally and publicly, he does only embody a limited aspect of Theft, but a lot of Princes and/or Archangels do this. How many way could one pursue Freedom, Technology or Nightmares? Not every aspect of a Word is covered in its Prince's persona. >From Whom It May Concern, Rich Ranallo "Rock and Roll will be the new planetary culture, believe it or not." - -Prof. Michio Kaku ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Jan 2002 05:15:37 -0600 From: "Prodigal" Subject: Re: IN> If I could torture the animals... Given what she wants is his > fear, not his destruction, she's unlikely to do that. There's no telling exactly what would cause Jordi to feel cornered, but to me a dominance fight with another superior would be a reasonably good cause. I wish I could remember which sourcebook the story about Uriel's trial was in, but I remember Jordi being furious about the purity crusade's targeting of the beasts of myth. Imagine how much greater his rage would be at his real animals - the ones upon whom his Word is based, being the target of a campaign like the one proposed for Beleth. Not that Beleth would necessarily realise this until it was too late, of course... > > Personally, the thought of Jordi turning his attention to the Marches scares > > me in a Purity Crusade sort of way. > > Oh, truly. Not only angels - what if Jordi managed to save some of the dragons during the crusade? There would be a multitude of ethereals fighting on either side, I have no doubt. > Scratch one Demon Princess. (And two to three billion humans). I don't know that Beleth would necessarily die, but I expect her tower would be destroyed beyond hope of timely repair. This is a scenario whose long-term ramifications I'm going to have to do a lot of thinking about... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 06 Jan 2002 21:31:14 +1100 From: "james walker" Subject: IN> Lovers talk. The Impudite whimpered as Blandine appeared. The 'bang' of Disturbance tore at the forming Tether - the second report as Beleth appeared reduced it to shreds. The Leech cowered in the corner as the ex-lovers faced each other. ~Do you think you are the only one who knows everything? Have you forgotten that I also know where you are? That I know every location you have every visited?~ Beleth's fury turned to anticipation - ~That I can can guess the location of all of your slaves? Shall I prove it by killing them? Or by bending their minds? Or must I prove I prove my power on you?~ A glittering blade of ice appeared in her hand, and she stepped forward. Yet Blandine was closer than Beleth had thought and the blade was already at Dream's throat - Blandine stood impassive, unmoving, refusing to invite or refuse the blade. Instinct took over, and Beleth yanked the blade away at the last moment, horrified at - No! not horror, she knew every form of Fear: merely prudence.. ~Nor will you trick me...No, not so easily...your destruction will be sweet, but to achieve it I must know where you are, mustn't I?~ Beleth hefted the blade feeling it's balance. ~For twenty two millennia I have waited, refusing to yield my attunement, knowing that the information it grants is more useful than the ability to drive a blade directly into your heart. But indirectly..oh indirectly..~ Beleth's voice trailed off. There was no point in continuing, and both of them knew it. The tantrums, the quarrels, the insults and innuendoes....All had been said, had been repeated, again and again, in history's longest, ugliest, most unsuccessful break-up. They were facing one another again, and there was nothing new to say. Beleth sighed, and turned away - and the eternity of pain showed on her face. Without the blaze of evil radiating from her, she was once again beautiful: a tragic queen, bearing up under endless sorrow. Blandine still did not move. It had taken over three thousand years for her to change: once, she would have embraced Beleth in this quiet moment: countless times she had, and each time had paid a terrible price. Now she stood still, though her heart bled. That's good, Beleth thought. It took long enough to teach her to leave me alone. Her own heart grew colder, knowing that Blandine would not reach for her - and Beleth had long ago persuaded herself that the icy chill meant that she was content. Beleth looked up again: ~Who?~ Nothing more. It hurt so much to admit even that much need. "Michael & Baal..again." The Taker was going blue, not daring to breathe. His eyes took in everything - - most of all their faces...not identical, but somehow a pair - and with a flash of insight realised how much it hurt the ex-lovers that their brothers were still friends. Beleth saw the realisation on his face, and with deliberate precision hurled the ice blade into his face. The split second lasted an eternity, the blade tumbling through the air, until it flew through his head to embed itself into the wall behind him. He was unhurt - just screaming inside - until the chill from the intangible blade started to burn him, started to freeze him to death. The pain grew, and he did not see, nor hear, nor speak again. Ignoring his corpse, Beleth pondered the news. She should be frightened..that would strengthen her Word..and would be sensible, given the power of the brothers in War....but it seemed so insignificant, with Blandine standing there. Was it Blandine's fault? Obviously. As long as Blandine was attuned to her, how could she truly feel fear? Yet they had had that yelling match, as well....so many times. Beleth sighed again. Her eyes sought out a ring on her finger, and she mentally probed it, seeking the Seraph of Revelations bound within. Gibbering, mad with Discord, it still possessed enough coherence to confirm Blandine's words. Ordering the Most Holy to warn her if Blandine lied, or began to shield the truth, Beleth returned her attention to her only lover. ~details..what are they planning this time?~ Blandine raised an eyebrow. As Beleth glowered, Blandine spoke: "All things come at a price. They plan to harm you greatly - the cost you must pay me in prisoners will be high." Beleth snarled. ~And if I refuse? Could you survive my destruction, little miss happy cherub? What price will you pay for standing by, and letting them harm your attuned?~ "Who knows? Not you....you'll never know...will you?" There were tears in Blandine's eyes, but her face remained firm. "Beleth, never forget this..no matter how much I love you, there are others I love, and I will defend them also. And if I am forced to choose - you betray.." ~Enough!~ Beleth snarled, furious. ~Very well, since you intend to risk the dissonance, what is your price? And the plot of our warlike brothers?~ Blandine shook her head sadly, and they began haggling. Despite her anger, Beleth did not mind. There was a certain pleasure in handing over prisoners, crippled by Discord and with their ideals crushed. Blandine's healers would have to spend ten times as much effort repairing them as was necessary to prevent the damage in the first place - releasing prisoners was an effective way of spreading the Word of Nightmares. Every step of the negotiations included precautions against treachery - Blandine had learnt the need long ago, and was now an expert at avoiding being tricked. Finally, the dealing completed, and the ring containing the Seraph of revelations on Blandine's finger as a initial payment, Blandine prepared to leave...but she did not turn away, her eyes watching Beleth for treachery to the end. Beleth smiled. Such a sweet thing, the fear of an archangel. No wonder it gave her a warm glow...what a pity that Blandine wasn't afraid *of* her. Still, Blandine was afraid, and that fear was pleasant, so pleasant... ....and Beleth need never analyse that fear, never ask herself why Blandine's fear meant so much to her...surely it was obvious, the joy of Blandine's terror... ...so a little corner of Beleth's cold heart stayed warm, touched by the knowledge that Blandine was afraid *for* Beleth....... =================================================== Cheers, James. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 06 Jan 2002 11:37:02 -0500 From: "Tyler Childers" Subject: IN> Re: If I could torture the animals. > >Date: Sun, 06 Jan 2002 11:50:29 +1100 >From: "james walker" >Subject: IN> Re: If I could torture the animals. > > > When I read your post I immediately thought of Lovecraft's story "The >Cats > > of Ulthar". > > > > In the story the cats of Earth are the protectors of the Earth's >Dreamlands > > and they fight especially against the cats of Saturn.
