>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>GEV List Thingy, Mar 19th.<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< From: hyc@hanauma.Jpl.Nasa.Gov (Howard Chu) Subject: PD Ogre game Well, I just dug up my copy of this game from usenet, posted way back in '87. Kind of fun, although after I added light tanks and mobile howitzers it got to be far too easy. The mobile howitzers don't seem much more effective, but with light tanks at 1/2 a point each, you can literally inundate the Mk 3 or Mk 5 ogre with incoming firepower. And, you get all the advantages of playing the odds by picking as many 1/1 attacks as you like. I guess part of the secret is in presenting the ogre with more targets; it's a particularly cheap way of neutralizing the ogre's missiles. (Ogre 3 fires both its missiles at two light tanks - who cares if the tanks live or die, you just got rid of two missiles for the price of one armor unit. Cheap!) After getting rid of the main battery, I just pound on the tread units until they're all gone... Sorry if this is old news to all of you. Since I just dug up the game last night, I've been trying out all the old tactics that I remembered, like the 5 howitzer defense, etc... With a poor computer random number generator, this game can get pretty frustrating. But when you have pieces to spare, it still doesn't matter. Although there's a slight disadvantage in that you can't get all your tanks into range 2 to actually fire.... ___ [Without the ridgelines, conventional units can bash ogres fairly well, but why not turn legit and get a C64 to run the approved version of the computer game on? -HJC] Henry J.
