From: "E={[(mc)^2]/{1-[(v^2)/(c^2)]}^(1/2)}" ------------------------------ From: Forrest Aguirre Subject: GEV-PC Spillover? Maybe I'm just missing something here, but I see no rules as to how one treats infantry if they are inside a GEV pc or APC during an attack. Are combat results applied directly to them (ie do they recieve the same result as the PC), or do they suffer a spillover attack. I think I agree with fish (Oct 29th posting) that Infantry should be allowed to add their D to that of the PC. Any thoughts? ----- [NO! Infantry defense doesn't add because they're all standing in the same room, where one nuke can off them all! It adds because they spread out for defense in depth. I've always played it that a GEV-PC acts like it's stacked with three seperate squads, not a platoon. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: sj@io.com (Steve Jackson) Subject: Tubes on GEV-PCs fish (I think) said, wrt GEV-PCs: >Also, according to your original description it was tubes which the suits fit into, anyway . . . Obviously there is a misunderstanding here . . . The infantrymen stand on the back of the GEV-PC and grip a frame to support themselves. If the word "tube" appeared in a description it was in the sense of the pipe that the frame is made out of. There's a brief note > >(on pg. Actually, I wasn't referring so much to things like Heavy Tanks as to assorted optional units and/or units unique to one side or another. I'll buy that the basic designs are similar enough so as to be indistinguishable, but the Chinese may well have (as you mentioned) a Real Big Hovertruck, to haul around their hordes of militia, and for at least a few years, the PanEuropeans were the only ones with access to a SHVY unit. Quite possibly something like the MSL-GEV (in whatever incarnation you prefer) was developed only by the Combine, as I seem to get the impression they're more GEV-oriented than PanEurope, so they're the only ones with a real use for it. In the end it doesn't really matter if only one side or another used a unit profusively... even if the Combine was the only side which made large use of MSL-GEVs, say, some would have been captured by PanEurope, should any given player want to use a PanEuropean force with a MSL-GEV or two attached. I don't really think in game mechanical terms it's important to distinguish one sides' troops from the others', but my own conception of the relative differences between the Combine and PanEurope have been enhanced by my assumption of something so simple as two different designs of LGEV-PC. It's just an 'atmosphere' thing, I guess. But I ramble. <>< fish ><> (fnord.) ------------------------------ From: kai or dorothy larson Subject: Aide De Camp PBEM Ogre/GEV Regarding the discussion about Aide De Camp, HPS doesn't distribute any Ogre Gamesets, although I have seen some "homegrown" Ogre gamesets. These homegrown gamesets would probably constitute "derivitive works" under copyright law, but I can't see it being worth anyone's trouble to go after individual fans who are just looking for a way to play Ogre by e-mail, particularly because the ADC gameset isn't of any value without the OGRE rules. I think it would be great if SJG came out with a professional quality ADC gameset which could be offered for sale. This would solve the problem, if indeed there is any problem. For those interested in PBEM: In addition to Aide De Camp, there is a very similar (but somewhat more advanced) program called "ASSIST" which does pretty much the same thing as ADC, only it is Windows based and has a nicer interface and other features such as hidden counters, etc. Kai Larson kpl@dimensional.com ------------------------------ From: "E={[(mc)^2]/{1-[(v^2)/(c^2)]}^(1/2)}" Subject: [OGRE] Speculation anybody? I am starting up an extended OGRE campaign on an epic proportion. In it, I've got all the standard: GEVs, OGREs, all the good stuff. But they are all early models, so I have lowered their stats to reflect this. The entire thing is set several dozen years in the past. So here's the question: does anybody have an speculative ideas about the history of military technology up to the OGRE era? Or, in Mr. Jackson's case, genuine ideas? I know about the Bicarbide armor, and the fall and rise of the infantry, and the OGREs, and all the standard stuff, but I was looking for ideas on less general ideas. For example: the first battle of the campaign has the Pan-European army attempting to transport an engineering team across a battlefield. The COmbine has intercepted a message, and knows this, and is trying to ambush them. PanEuropeans designate three GEVs as carrying engineers. This particular engineering team is responsible for the development of the OGRE Mk. III. I'm trying to get as many battles as possible. I've already got almost 30 lined up for my month-long war. How 'bout it, any ideas? Christopher ----- [Buy the OGRE Minis Book, more history than you can lob a missile at. -HJC] Henry J.
