Zircher" ===== Beef up the Militia From: "Hunt, Kirk W." ------------------------------ From: "Donald Lang" Subject: OGREs in our stockings Yes I am interested in the plastic minis, rules, supplements, vacuformed buildings and anything else for OGRE. Merry Christmas Donald Lang ------------------------------ From: Thomas_Jones-Low@idx.com Subject: Cost of the Superheavy Instead of just dropping a Subscribe message, I though I would participate. After looking through the Unofficial Ogre Minis unit cost formula, and seeing that the SuperHeavy is missing from the list, I though I would be bold enough to add it. So the Superheavy (pre-minis version without the AP guns) is: 6 (attack) * (6 (range) + 6 (move) * 1.33 (move bonus) + 4 (defense) * 2 (std defense multiplier) * (6 (range) + 0 (no second move)) = 84 + 48 = 132 Henries or 11 points. But this ignores the fact that the superheavy mounts two attack 3 range 6" guns and can fire them at different targets on the same turn. if we give the Superheavy a bonus to the attack portion of the formula for being able to do so, the numbers come out to be: 1.1(attack bonus) * 3 (attack) * (6 (range) + 6(move) * 1.33 (move bonus)) + 1.1 (attack bonus) * 3 (attack) *(6 (range) + 6(move) * 1.33 (move bonus)) + 4 (defense) * 2 (std defense multiplier) * (6(range) + 0 (No second move)) = 46.2 + 46.2 + 48 = 140.4 Henries or 11.7 points. If you apply the same formula logic to the GEV-PC carrying three squads of infantry, the GEV-PC comes out to 6 or 7 points. This begs the question, you can cook the formula so the number come out the way the rules say they should, but does this really make the units worth the points they cost. [But, I heal quickly...] As a proud holder of one of your fan-ware licenses, I would, of course, mention that the SJG has one of the best policies around. I know of no other company that is so willing to work with it's fans to keep things legal and still support their favorite games. (Your participation in this list alone is exceptional evidence of that.) Todd A. Zircher (that V_MAP guy) [Which reminds me, I need to send you a quarterly report before the end of the year...] ------------------------------ From: "Hunt, Kirk W." Subject: Beef up the Militia 1) Okay: What do we CALL the OGRE/GEV/Shockwave game system? OGREverse? OGRE? GEV? What do we call the whole of the Game System 2) I'm convinced I don't like anybody's Militia Rules. The image I have in my mind is of folks in Radiation Suits carrying M-16's (Railgun version). Being poor doesn't make them rabble, otherwise we need Rabble rules. Try these Militia Rules: Always D1 Attack 1/Range 1 Movement 1, no road bonus Kirk ----- [You're the first person I've met who claims that the Militia are overvalued. Will you keep the 1/3rd point price tag? Even with my rules, Militia have much greater defense efficiency than Infantry. With SJ's or your rules I fail to see the place for MI troopers.
