Getgen" Subject: Cost of the Superheavy RE: Cost of Units (reply to Thomas Jones-Low) The problem isn't with the formula but with the units themselves. Yes, you can "cook the numbers" to come up with whatever numbers you want. You could contrive a way to say that Light Tanks are "more valuable" than GEV's, should you be so inclined ... remember what they say about liars, politicians and statisticians?? No, the problem is that the value of the units (Supers = 12 and GEV-PC = 3) were likely picked out of thin air; but subjective play testing and objective mathematics concur that the values are wrong. The GEV-PC should be a 4 or 4.5 point unit, not counting the fact it can carry Infantry; and the Super simple doesn't live up to its name. The fix is to change the RULES in the next release (there will be a "next", SJ, won't there??) to make the GEV-PC a 2/3 or 3/4 unit, up from a 1/2 unit, and to find something new to add to the Super to make it worth buying. Mike P in N.H. ----- [The LGEV will not be killed by an unarmed train, see 6.135. (Yes, but what if an unarmed train overruns a disabled D0 hostile CP? ;-) -HJC] ------------------------------ From: "Garth L. Getgen" Subject: OGREverse Kirk, "OGREverse" ... I like it!! I second this as the new official nomenclature for the OGRE/GEV game system. Garth L. Getgen ----- [Let me add a new unit to the OGREverse then. Hover Infatry Fighting Vehicle (HIFV), Just like a D1 Hovertruck, but one of the carried squads can use it's weapons normally. (While being protected by the thin armor of the truck.) Cost of a HIFV carrying a single Militia squad is: 1.0 (overrun bonus to atk) * [ 1" (overrun range) + 6" (move) * 1.2 (move mod)] + 1.0 (normal atk) * [2" (total range) + 6" (move) * 1.2 (move mod)] + 1.0 (def) * 2.0 (std defence adjustment) * [ 2" (range) + 4" (2ndry move) * 1.2 (move mod)] = 31 "henries" or 2.58 VPs, minus .333 VPs for the Militia leaves a cost 2.25 VPs, but it can carry another two squads of militia hidden inside so round up to 3 VPs, the same price tag as a light tank. -HJC] Henry J.
