From: Steve Jackson ------------------------------ From: "John W.F. McClain" Subject: Link to the future. I'm considering putting up a page for "21st Century Military links". I'd include the online Marine Corps manuals and the Center for Indefensible Propaganda (for grins). This would be cool... I am solely responsible for contents of this message. Be sure and grab the Marine PDFs quick before they shut off the link. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: Steve Jackson Subject: Flesh gives way to steel. >1991: Last use of battleships in war. First surrender of man to robot. Good idea. Tell me about the robot... >Everybody else going to see "Starship Troopers"? Saw it. Didn't butcher Heinlein as badly as I feared, but omigod, the infantry didn't act like infantry in battle, and the way the fleet sailed slowly in formation over a world with unsuppressed air-to-space defenses . .. . yeeeeech. But the bugs were yucky and the girls were cute, so what can you say? Steve Jackson - yes, of SJ Games - yes, we won the Secret Service case Learn Web or die - http://www.sjgames.com/ - dinosaurs, Lego, Kahlua! The heck with PGP keys; finger for Geek Code. Fnord. ----- [During the Persian Gulf War, a battleship was using a UAV to laser designate it's shots. The Iraqis caught on real quick and started waving white flags whenever the UAV flew overhead. Not quite Man surrendering to robot, because the UAV was being guided by a remote pilot, right? Well, they lost control of one of their UAVs and the last they saw of it, it was flying deeper into Iraq, sending back pictures of white flags being waved of it along the way. -HJC] Henry J.
