Our comprehensive shiny new web policy will be posted REAL soon. The short answer is, posting your original creations is fine. Use of our trademarks, logos, art, etc., is permitted if you follow certain rules. >I emailed someone at SJ Games Oh, big help in diagnosing why you didn't get an answer. "Someone at SJ Games." Subject: Experience. ***Warning!! LONG POST! Warning!!*** Based on the comments on experience and troops (Sorry, I deleted the Nov 22 mail without recording the man's name.) I think that specialized tables are the only way to keep from unhinging the game. If you allow assistance (1 Elite averages out 1 Rookie giving 2 Standard Units) the whole thing becomes moot. (Which explains why it wasn't noted in the original editions of OGRE/GEV.) For rookies, the ends of the spectrum remain the same: Cratering (5-1) the spot where the unit WAS still works, while a Head Shot (1-2) is still mainly good dice rolling. In between, all that quivering and bad aim works against them. A straight "-1" on dice rolls is too severe, since you have to assume they qualified on their weapons during Boot Camp. (In game mechanics, it doesn't make sense to have infantry that have only a 50-50 chance to HIT a Hovertruck.) OGRES are particularly effective against Green units, since the rookies just don't get solid hits as often. Elite units ARE better at the low end, but trail off at the high end. (You can't make the shell hit harder, but you can place it better.) Elite troops don't get more outright kills, but they are much more likely to disable an opponent. Against armor and infantry, this should lead to a "snowballing effect" in battle: Disabled enemy units rarely get back in the fight. Elite troops should make overruns particularly hellish because of the extra "D." Note that Elites DO NOT get any real bonus against OGRES since that don't get solid hits any more often than Standard Troops . (OGRES shatter ALL the battlefield norms.) In a campaign, the Elite troops become a huge threat on their own, while Green troops need seasoning against rear targets or with overwhelming advantage. It could also help to explain successful Bio-Chem attacks, poor equipment/maintenance and out of supply/over used units. Comments?
