It's never really explained quite _how_ Nippon invaded the West Coast, though I suppose they did have those cyberships. > [You'd protect these units with Laser Cruisers against > attacks by Missile Subs.] Hmm, or protect them with the cyberships, if they're available. Has anyone ever come up with a design for a cybership? It strikes me that they'd want guns with at least the range of a howitzer, and able to penetrate underwater as a howitzer. Fish. ----- [I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of a cybership design, but I would suggest that it wouldn't make much sense to submit an orginal design at this point. -HJC] ------------------------------ From: NuPhalanx@aol.com Subject: Assault Hovercraft Hello! I was thinking, what about an up-armoured version of our current US Navy hovercraft? It can carry an M1 Tank, which is about 70 tons, at 40+ knots. My thinking of GEV-LST's is that they would be launched 'over the horizon', say 70-100 NM from shore. These vehicles would be covered by Cruise Missles, and maybe some form of 'Gunship' LST to provide covering fire. Here are my stats below, for the boardgame. I don't have rules for the miniatures. GEV-LST M3-2 1/1 D2 carries cargo = 1 Armor Unit GEV-HLST M2-1 1/1 D3 carries cargo = 2 Armor Units GEV-GUN M3-2 *2/2 **3/4 D4 no cargo *unit has two 2/2 weapons. Use SHVY rules in their use. **unit can make four 3/4 attacks. I have no clue as to an Armor Unit value for these. I would welcome any comments on this. cordially, Mike Z. ----- [Wouldn't it make more sense to use OGRE Minis size values for the units being transported? -HJC] ------------------------------ From: VIPER394@aol.com Subject: Phibs The Gev-LST that Fish talks about exists today in two versions The US Navy LCAC and a much larger Soviet version the later was a key plot element in the novel "Red storm Riseing" in that book's invation of Iceland The LCAC Soviet cargo Hovercraft Attack 0 1 defence 2 3 move 2/2 2/1 movement GEV GEV Size same as MK 3 same as Mk5 points ? ? capacity 4 size 2 or 2 size 4 ect 16 LPH 12 helocopters 36 points of infantry well deck holding 4 Gev-pc or Gev 1 laser turet 1 missle turet {treat as missle tank} Hull points move 4 0000000 move 3 0000000 move 2 0000000 move 1 0000000 sunk 45 points with out infantry Gevs or Aircraft Must stay 2 hexs away from shore hexs IF IT DOES IT IS GROUNDED AND MAY NO LONGER MOVE .0 ASW capabilty unless some one wants to make up rules for ASW helos. The bridge is treated like a hardend CP if the brige is taken out then the ship is reduced to 1/2 its curent alowable speed, The weapons lose 1 point from there atack strength and may not cordiate atacks with other units, also with the bridge distroied no aircraft may take off or land the Laser turet is treated as the land unit of the same name and the missle turet is treated as a missle tank The hull is treated like the treads on a oger In other words the LPH is attacked like it was an oger I cant find the optional rules for helos maybe Cobb cand find them in his archives it. They were posted on this newsletter around a year ago Also I seam to reacal that way back at the dawn of time there were rules for navle Ogers ( Basicly a Robotic Battleship) ----- [There's been lots of helo rules, I think there's a few on the SJG OGRE site. Why would a LPH mount a laser turret? It would seem to conflict with its basic role. (A missile-tank style launcher seems to match the current level of armament naval carriers get.) -HJC] Henry J.
