============ OGREverse list, Nov 18th (Last: Nov 13th) ============= ===== Lasers From: "William Spencer" ===== OGRE sites? From: "Todd A. Zircher" ===== Where are the rules? From: SRKOALA@aol.com ===== Maps and figures From: "Grogan, Paul" ===== Missing in action From: Servitor@aol.com ------------------------------ From: "William Spencer" Subject: Lasers How big is an Ogre-era laser? That is, how much power does it need, stability, etc.? I know the permanent AA laser towers are larger than howitzers - they need a permanent emplacement, after all - but those have a range of a few dozen klicks, and a relatively high output. The introduction to the game also mentioned that lasers were too finicky to use on the main battlefield, but I suppose that, for certain uses, they'd try anyway. How about a small, portable laser, suitable for special forces teams in ambushes, or for demolitions work? How about a light laser that could be mounted on a jet fighter? Laser-armed jets would be a good idea...the laser could handle anti-air missiles, and when engaging other targets you wouldn't have to worry about leading them, like with cannon - just point and shoot. (Light is, after all, the fastest thing around.) It doesn't matter if the laser will get misaligned by impacts - a jet couldn't stand a direct hit, anyway. How about a battery of rapid-pulse but short-range lasers, suitable for small area or point defense? They can't pick off a missile at 30 kilometers, but they can put up a screen of fire that annihilates incoming shells at one kilometer. (Not much help if large nukes are being fired at you, but it would help against the small anti-armor shells.) Just some ideas. Comments? ----- [I've assumed that they're X-ray lasers formed by small nuclear explosions. How small can you make a nuke? -HJC] ------------------------------ From: "Todd A. Zircher" Subject: OGRE sites? > Show me it ain't so. Post your BPC plated URLs... I've got a cybertank gallery that unfortunately don't have an Ogre in it, yet. Seems I've gotten side tracking on this 3D virtual miniatures wargame/RPG construction set thingy that I'm currently programming.* Technically, I guess that the V_MAP site counts as an OGRE fan location. -- TAZ * Probably explains why I haven't been posting as much to my usual haunts either. ----- [OK, V_MAP brings us up to eight links, plus the references to the two Authors. Say, anybody got a good webpage on Retief of the CDT? (And no, I don't want a page that simply copies the Spamazon search list with handy affliate links.) -HJC] ------------------------------ From: SRKOALA@aol.com Subject: Where are the rules? > Each turn is 4 minutes. Thanks, altho that doesn't tell me how long a turn is. Were are the rules for Heavy Weapons Infanty? -Stephen ----- [Each turn is 4 minutes. One side runs around for two minutes then stops when it's the other side's time to move. The rules for variant infantry may be found in OGRE Minis http://www.warehouse23.com/item.cgi?SJG7203 (Hey Steve, where's my affliate cut? ;-) -HJC] ------------------------------ From: "Grogan, Paul" Subject: Maps and figures I'm trying to find a few things, can anyone help. I'm trying to find another copy of the GEV original map as mine seems to have gone missing. I'm also trying to get my hands on whatever miniatures for Ogre are still available. Paul Grogan Runestone Games, UK ----- [Why not try V_MAP? -HJC] ------------------------------ From: Servitor@aol.com Subject: Missing in action << [With all the scenarios converted to inches so that nobody asks about the board game again? -HJC] >> But Henry, you have to have something to do... (sorry, sorry) best, flunky ------ [It's getting bad enough to almost justify a new entry for the FAQ. (Q: My local scalper is asking fifty bucks for a dog-eared copy of GEV. Should I give in or just wait for Mr Jackson's heirs to republish the game? A: I don't think that'll pan out. He seems to have developed an interest in human cloning. %-) -HJC] Henry J.
