============ OGREverse list, Nov 6th (Last: Oct 24th) ============= ===== Variant OGRE treads From: "Grogan, Paul" ===== Ogre Book - any ideas on what's in it? From: Trey Palmer ------------------------------ From: "Grogan, Paul" Subject: Variant OGRE treads Having made the conversion from OGRE/GEV boardgame to miniatures back in 1992, and now back to orginal boardgame with my new supersize boards, I've noticed that the tread units for some of the OGRES are different. Anyone know which is the official one. I'm guessing they were changed in OGRE Miniatures so that they were divisible by the movement rate. Eg: Mark VI. The original article shows a ark VI as having 75 treads, but this went down to 72 in OGRE Miniatures. The MARK IV used to have 60 treads, and then suddenly lost 4 to give it 56. The Fencer gained 3 (from 45 to 48) as did the Mark I (from 15 to 18) Paul Grogan European Man in Black Runestone Games www.runestonegames.freeserve.co.uk ----- [The Conversion is not exact. OGREs have gotten weaker in relation to the other units in the progression from OGRE to GEV to Shockwave to OGRE Minis. In OGRE, a mob of GEVs needed to strip 15 thread units and a main battery from a Mark III to be safe from non-missile attacks, a total of 19 defense factors or 30 GEV attacks. (Vs 30 attacks to strip off all the guns. A clear case for Missile Tank backup.) In OGRE Minis, they only need to strip 8 thread units and kill the main battery, a total of 12 defense factors or 18 GEV attacks. And ever since GEV, the hover mob have been able to strip the threads off gunless OGREs with one or two turns of overruns. (LGEVs are even better at this, losing less firepower under the treads.) Also, with OGRE Minis, Cruise Missiles can shockwave OGREs beyond secondary battery range at 3-1 odds. (Ouch!) -HJC] ------------------------------ From: Trey Palmer Subject: Ogre Book - any ideas on what's in it? Well folks, I saw the ad for this and flipped. Egged my local hobby shop into ordering it as well. The question is what new material will be included in the book? Thanks much, ===== Bowden "Trey" Palmer Sneering at something is an admission to failure. You are claiming superior talent or insight ... but declining to use it. The best way to "sneer" at something, if you must, is to improve or out do it. ----- [A lot of classic material that's now out of print, and some interesting new stuff. I wanted to do a retrospective on the classic units, but I didn't get it together in time so I'm thinking of finishing the article and submitting it to Pyramid to celebrate the new edition. -HJC] Henry J.
