====== Ogre Digest, April 10th (Last: March 22nd) ======== ===== Please help me balance my Ogre scenario! From: Nyrath the nearly wise ===== STOM scenario From: "Henry Cobb" ============================== From: Nyrath the nearly wise Subject: Please help me balance my Ogre scenario! I've looked at all the web pages, and my mind is blurred with visions of numbers, equations, ciscoes and henries. Perhaps the Ogre list can help me. Now, the basic "kill the CP" scenario has the following figures: Ogre Mk III 20 Inf, 12 Armor 30 def attack point must survive for total def victory Ogre Mk V 30 Inf, 20 Armor 50 def attack point must survive for total def victory My question is: what are the three numbers for Mk I, Mk II, Mk IIIB, Mk IV, Mk VI, Fencer, Ninja, Doppelsoldner, and Ogrethulhu? I've done some calculating myself, but I am unsure of my figures. OGRE Ogre Def Num Num Def Def Pts Pts Inf Arm Atk Survive ---------------------------------------------------------------- Mk I 25 30 5 3 17 9 Mk II 50 60 10 7 35 17 Mk III 100 120 20 13 70 35 Mk IIIB 120 144 24 16 84 42 Mk IV 150 180 30 20 105 52 Mk V 150 180 30 20 105 52 Mk VI 210 252 42 28 147 73 Fencer 140 168 28 19 98 49 Ninja 150 180 30 20 105 52 Doppelsoldner 210 252 42 28 147 73 Ogrethulu 300 360 60 40 210 105 Ogre_Pts: Victory point value from Ogre Miniatures Def_Pts: Victory point value for the defender's side = Ogre Pts * 1.2 (this was derived empirically) Num_Inf: Number initial of infantry units (empirically 1/3 of the Def_Pts) = (Def_Pts*0.333) / 2 (where 2 is Ogre Mini value of Inf) Num_Arm: Number of initial armor units (empirically 2/3 of the Def_Pts) = (Def_Pts*0.666) / 6 (where 6 is Ogre Mini value of armor) Def_Atk: Average value of total defender attack points (where 3.75 is the average attack value of Msl, Hvy tank, GEV, and Howitzer) = Num_Inf + (Num_Arm*3.75) Def_Survive: amount of defender attack points that must survive for total defender victory (empirically half the original Def_Atk. Ogre Minis says 1/3 of defense force but that's not how it seems to work) = Def_Atk / 2 Surely somebody else has done this! ============================== From: "Henry Cobb" Subject: STOM scenario I've been thinking over a GEV scenario, but have a very good excuse for not submitting to the contest for Scenario Book 2, as it's already been written. OK, the year is 21XX and a Combine Carrier Group (CG) is maneuvering off the Atlantic coast, out of range of shore detection. An objective is selected in say France or Spain and instead of committing the forces for a massive invasion the Combine elects to send in a few squadrons of GEVs to Breakthrough a weak spot, Raid the objective area then return to their seabase before the natives can rush forces in. The entire plan depends on speed of execution so the forces execute a Ship To Objective Maneuver (STOM) without any buildup or delay at the coastline. Obstacles are breached in-stride or maneuvered around. So really, I was looking at how the USMC's Operational Maneuver From the Sea would play out in the Ogreverse. The only problem is that if you stick to the land based parts of the operation, you get Breakthrough and Raid and those have been in GEV for almost two decades before the Marines started thinking about them. So, here's to Evil Stevie for doing all the hard work ahead of time. I still might do the prequel to Breakthrough showing the GEVs coming in over the coastline and into a minefield (need to add some GEV-PCs full of engineers...). Which brings up the point of how to use mounted infantry effectively. Mounted attack still seems like a bad idea, but the current rules don't punish it sufficiently. At the moment I can see how to use Hovertrucks full of Militia better than I can see how to make GEV-PC loads of regular infantry work. List Moderator: Henry J.
