Ah... i missed that, but just found your link to it in the Feb 16th mail. My comments: a) damned shame it's just for minis (don't have 'em). b) it's a little confusing to list Missile Racks as having a range and attack score. Also, seems silly to say "multi-shot weapon" on the racks because all weapons are multi-shot unless specified otherwise. c) Ramming info: this info is easily memorized, but the dice of ramming damage done by Ogres on other Ogres is not - i'd rather see this section replaced with the Ogre vs. Ogre ramming damage. Then again, i'm thinking in terms of a reference card, not a complete set of rules. It looks very nice, though. ----- stephan Generic Universal Computer Guy stephan@einsurance.de - http://www.einsurance.de Office: +49 (89)  552 92 862 Handy:  +49 (179) 211 97 67 "Unix: the shell is your oyster." ===== From: "Hunt, Kirk (Tucson)" Subject: Ogre Lite 1) Ogre Lite has an error on the Heavy Tank listing it at the wrong defensive value. Otherwise it's a great little rules set, but at least one player in the room must already fundamentally understand the game for it to work. 2) Who is Grant calling an OLD Grognard? Desertcat Purveyor of Pulse Rifles "Hivlocs-R-Us" ===== From: "Daniel Gallant" Subject: Ogre Lite Henry, Sorry for not openning my yap earlier. 8-) Here are my comments on Ogre Lite: Good Things - image of minis - strengths/weaknesses of units - tactics suggestions - rules high light the simplicity and fast play of the system Bad Things - no full stats for Ogre - no scenario How To Fix - include stats for Ogre Mk3 (only) - basic scenario (even if it's one line saying equal point on both sides, 100 pts each?) General Web Extras - some cut out terrain in Ogre Minis scale a la MageKnight, maybe one for the Ogre map and one for the GEV map? - printable play sheets (unit stats, play sequence, combat chart, terrain effects, all on one sheet) This is just my $0.02. ============================== From: "bbell1@insight.rr.com" Subject: OM2 & unified ruleset What is the status for Ogre Miniatures (OM) 2? I would like to see improved layout of rules. The current rules for modifiers to combat due to terrain in OM is not in the combat section it is in the terrain section, but not with the terrain that modifies the combat effect; it is in the terrain section under the unit type burried in the text; the chart in GEV is very useful. While it is old school, I like the numbered rules of GEV. It makes it easy to reference rules and organize them (adding new rules as necessary). I would prefer to see the GEV rules printed in the first half of the OM2 with sub rules for OM. Examples: 2.01 General. The mapsheet... 2.0101 OM does not use hexes, but for rule purposes 2" of terrain = 1 hex. 2.0102 A unit must be toughing a piece of terrain to take advanage of its properties (i.e. a tank must touch trees or lichen to be considered in woods). ... 6.13 Overrun attacks... 6.1301 In OM, any unit within 1" of another unit is considered to be in the same hex. Then in the back, have the extras, like painting tips, modeling suggestions, etc. A unified ruleset is probably not needed, but mirroring the rules (including rule number) that are in common would be a big benifit. Box game Ogre/GEV players should not have to purchase a unified rule set to play the game. One of the big attractions to Ogre/GEV is the pricing and portability of the game. But an Ogre/GEV player should be able to jump into a OM game with only one or two questions about the rules (what is overrun range? what is spillover range? what is the effect of hills?) and play the game expecting to be able to apply his/her experience from Ogre/GEV. I would also like future supplements to address both GEV and OM in any new rules. ============================== From paul@sjgames.com Tue Mar 12 10:49:16 2002 MIME-Version: 1.0 From: "Paul Chapman" Subject: Unified theory of rulebooks > From: "Grant A. I think something like this would take, at most, a page. But I agree it is necessary for all the reasons Grant states. Yep, I'm still alive, and now that Car Wars is at the printer, OM2 will be my next big project.
