I get warm'n'fuzzy thinking about all the little ecosystems they create for wildlife as they smuch down town hexes like godzilla. I'm sure little bluebirds lite on cruise missile crawlers. Snow-white drives one to work every day. (SUV-driving american wench!) Seriously though, I've been playing around a bit more, and it seems Cruise Missiles both /obsolete/, and /replace/ GEVs in the order of battle. They obsolete GEVs because they attack clusters of them at 4-1 odds. They replace GEVs because they're even faster - the speed of light. They can take advantage of chinks in the enemy formation that no other unit can dream of exploiting. Thus even before they fire, they're tying down enemies and forcing them to buy otherwise-weak missile tanks. The cruise missile is the best raider in the game. ===== From: "Chris French" Subject: Cruise Missiles > From: David Morse > Ogres mount a LOT of AP guns, rolling all them d6 is tedious. What's the matter -- don't like coming to an _OGRE_ event, and having a game of _Yahtzee_ break out? :) > From: David Morse > Subject: GEV scenario contest, Reloaded > > Well, I don't know about you, but I'm no longer holding my breath > waiting for the GEV scenario book to come out. Considering SJG's decadely upper-management meltdowns, I'd expect to see it 'round about 2011.... :P > [That's a bit extreme. Have you tried Ogre Missile Spillover Splash? > > http://www.io.com/~hcobb/gev/2002/gevnov28.txt -HJC] Of course. It doesn't work. "Stun" seems like a good idea, but the sheer volume of the FW force means either the OGRE spends a lot of time and tracks ramming its way through the FWs, or it has to finish them off with its guns (and every stunned FW it shoots means one less gun is aimed at a "live" FW). Whereas giving OGREs "the Davy Crockett option" (referring to someone's brilliant idea of creating nuclear hand-grenades...) means LGEV forces die spectacularly, LT forces slightly less so, and "normal" forces just sort-of shrug and keep hammering. Oh, and keep a couple other points in mind: First, each time the OGRE fires a missile, that's 12 VP; and second, if the non-OGRE force can get close enough, the OGRE faces the likelihood of suffering "backblast".
