====== OGRE Digest, Feb 17th, 2004 (Last: Feb 8th) ======== ===== Ogre Miniatures News From: "Chris French" From: Servitor@aol.com ===== Winchell's Ogre art From: "John D. Gwinner" ============================== From: "Chris French" Subject: Ogre Miniatures News > From: "Peter Lomax" > > If you think thats bad, wait till SJG do "Ogre the Collectible Card Game" For Cthulhu's sake, DON'T GIVE THE MAN ANY IDEAS! > [Naw, Ogre the Collectible Clickybase Miniatures Game. -HJC] Hey, if SJG decided to make inexpensive plastic minis rather than overpriced metal ones, I *might* actually get some. The sole redeeming virtue of _Mechwarrior: Dark Age_ is that for $20, one gets 1 'Mech, 2 armor, and *5* infantry minis, while $10 gets one 1 'Mech, 1 armor, and 2 infantry (all, I might add, already painted). Compared to $15 for 1-2 unassembled, unpainted minis, that's a freakin' *bargain*. I've said this since my _Car Wars_ days -- if the gaming co's want to make minis, make them out of plastic. If Plastruct Inc. can offer 15 1/200-scale cars in white styrene plastic for $15, then whomever sold the gaming biz on metal minis has shafted not only the game co's, but the gamers as well. > From: "henry_cobb" > Subject: Scenario for a massive PBeM game > > Glory after the fall. That's nice -- who's running it, and where? :) CF ===== [I do not currently have the time to run a game. For this one I'd like some software support so that the users can plot out their turns in a web browser, which means I'd have to first write it and then get permission out of SJGames and if I were going to do that I'd just write up a GEV computer game to distract Evil Stevie while I take over the world. -HJC] ===== From: Servitor@aol.com Subject: Ogre Miniatures News > Naw, Ogre the Collectible Clickybase Miniatures Game Cut to 2 years from now. The scene: my local game store "What!?! $29.95 for a starter and $12.99 a booster!?! That's insane! "You want any or not?" "(Grumble, grumble...) Yea, ring me up a case of each..." On a different note. I will be running OGRE Macrotures at MEGACON 2004 in March on Friday the 5th and Saturday the 6th. Anyone on the mailing list that plans to be in Orlando Florida during that time and would like to attend the event should email me so that I can reserve a play spot for you. Gwinner" Subject: Winchell's Ogre art > From: David Morse > Meanwhile, the secondary batteries have incredibly long barrels - (as > long as a missile tank on Mark IV and higher!), can only fire at > minimum +30 degrees elevation, yet they're very short range. I always wondered about that - they look like howitzers. (I posted something about this on the forum web site when I was doing my 3D CAD image). Howitzers CAN shoot at short range, even at moderate angles, they just use less powder. Point blank range, however, they would have to depress most all the way. Not all the secondaries can do that - I actually moved 2 of them on my rendition of the Mark V 'forward' so that they could depress much of the way. The other big advantage of howitzers is that they do not have to have line of sight, but that's not really a problem/advantage of Ogre (depending on what optional rules you are using). I think for the 'real world' of an Ogre though having a direct fire weapon (main batteries) complimented with indirect fire (the secondaries) makes a lot of sense. ============================= Send all submissions or mailing list changes or problems to ogre@sjgames.com Archives for this mailing list may be found at http://www.io.com/~hcobb/ General online support for the OGRE game is at http://www.sjgames.com/ogre Ogre, G.E.V., Shockwave and other products mentioned here are trademarks or registered trademarks of Steve Jackson Games.
