2048 World Championship Results
21 September, 1998 -
Mines, flaming oil, lasers, blast cannons, incendiary
rockets and confetti: this year's championships had
them all. The podia could only hold three people each
though, and here they are.
Duelling Championships
- Miles Messervy
- Amit Sakar
- Garth Anderson
Racing Championships
- Brett Peckinpaugh
- Eric Freeman
- Garth Anderson
In the Racing Championships, Sumit Sakar was awarded a
special "Crash" award for taking out
both his brother's and his own car, as well as filling
the track with debris, when they ran out of room at the
NW hairpin.
Some of you may remember Garth Anderson as last year's
Duelling Champion. Sadly, two third places probably
doesn't make up for losing that crown!
World Championships
09 September, 1998 -
This year's
AADA World Championships
are only a few days away now and airships are carrying
this year's competitors in from every corner of the earth.
Good luck to each and every one of them, and let's hope
their Gold Cross payments are up to date.
For anyone who hasn't heard yet, both the Duelling and
Racing championships are being held at Tacticon in Denver,
Colorado. For more details, including the structure of the
qualifying rounds and an excellent compilation of rules
Question and Answers,
take a look at the
World Championship Web Site.
We'll let you know the results as soon as the dust settles.
On another note, some people have been asking what they
can look forward to on the web pages in the future. First
off will probably be a complete revamp of the links in the
Blasts from the Past
page, after that look for a definitive description of the
rules for championship autoduels, and just a little further
down the road is a complete review of each vehicle's arcs
including some which have never been properly defined.
World Championships: Important Announcement
July 09, 1998 -
It looks like ASP have intercepted some of our previous
announcements about this year's World Championships.
Both Duelling and Racing Championships will be held at
Tacticon as we have previously said, but Tacticon is
being held between September 11-13 not 17-22.
Because the time available will no longer permit the
running of the 5 rounds originally planned, the
format of the championships will also be changed.
For the latest news keep your sights locked onto
the AADA World Championship site.
Deluxe Car Wars Reprint, NOVA Online, World Championships
June 20, 1998 -
A lot of fans have been asking when this would happen, and it now
has...
Deluxe Car Wars has been
reprinted. The new edition includes a copy of the Car Wars
Compendium, and enough maps and counters to accomodate
even the grandest scenarios. It is also the first of the Car
Wars products to be given its own
on-line description.
NOVA Online
The experts at NOVA have also set up a page to share their years of
experience with us. Though there are a multitude of articles, arenas
and scenario ideas, with the
World Championships
fast approaching, the dozens of expert designs they have uploaded
will be a boon to everyone.
World Championships
While on the subject of the
World Championships,
fans may also like to know that Michael Owen, the editor of the
Car Wars Internet Newsletter, has htmlised several useful articles from
Autoduel Quarterly which have not yet been added to
our online archive. These detail variant rules
which will be in force at the Championships, and design strategies.
Links to his htmlisations can be found in the
June edition
of the newsletter.

Autoduel Japan
In the latest edition of
Pyramid,
Mike Montesa reports on the recent growth of
autoduelling in Japan.

of Japan's own variety of corporate Car Wars. You will, of course, need
a subscription to access it.
2048 Championships Announced, Car Wars Internet Newsletter
March 16, 1998 -
2048 Championships Announced
The season has really been heating up over the last couple of weeks.
The most important piece of news has to be the announcement of this
location for this year's world championships.
This year both the duelling and racing championships will be held
at TactiCon. The convention will be held September 17-20 at the
Double Tree Hotel in Denver, Co.
All rounds of these events will be run in Matchbox (TM) or
MicroMachine (TM) scale. You may bring your own miniatures
as long as they conform to referee specs that will be released
with the event details.

AADA News
The AADA News from Pyramid #29 have now been added
to the AADA News archive.
High Velocity Duelling
James Barton has produced another impressive issue of High Velocty
Duelling. HVD #8 contains variant rules for
fire and explosion as well as all the regular items. Make sure you take a
look at the vehicle design competition.
A related resource for duellists across the world is the
Car Wars Player Listing which
promises to become an essential tool when you're looking for some
target practice.
Car Wars Internet Newsletter
The ubiquitous Michael Owen (see HVD #8) and
Nathan Whitchurch of CRADA have resurrected the Car Wars
mailing list. For more information about that, see the
Car Wars Internet Newsletter.
Unofficial Pages
Michael has also set up a site for SWAT. At the moment, it's main content
is probably
the most comprehensive list of Car Wars and related links
on the internet. Keep your sights on this one...
Elsewhere, the
New World Autoduel Association
have a site to support their corporate duelling season. Variant rules for
corporate duelling, variable passenger weight and monster trucks are backed
up by an expanding collection of arenas and numerous original vehicle designs.
Tournament Regulations and the Car Wars Web Ring
February 22, 1998 -
Two new additions to our arsenal this February.
We now have an online copy of the
Rules and Regulations for AADA-sanctioned tournament combat
.
These are primarily the rules printed in Autoduel
Quarterly (ADQ) Volume 9 Number 1, but
include variations instituted during the 1997
world championships.
Don't forget that the project to htmlise ADQ is
ongoing and the completed issues can be found in the
ADQ Archive
.
Another interesting development for all of you
duellists is the creation of a
Car Wars Web Ring
.
It's still young, but there are already links
to gaming clubs all around the world.
Does anyone have a spare gunner?
January 25, 1998 -
January brings a new unofficial page from Patric Rogers.
Morpheus Unbound
contains some of his original vehicle designs, unofficial errata
to the AADA Vehicle Guides, Volumes 2 and 3, and a "gunner pool"
for those days when a driver is just not enough.
'Tis the season to be duelling...
December 20, 1997 -
December 2047 has seen a huge amount of activity on the
autoduelling circuit. If this season's warm-ups are anything
to go by, we're in for a tremendous season!
In England a company claims to be selling real meat in cans! There
are rumours they have found a way to travel back in time, and are
harvesting dinosaurs, but these are as yet unsubstantiated.
(
Francis Greenaway's rules for dinosaurs and mini-subs
)
There have been a number of additions to the
Timewarp Tavern's
Car Wars pages
following the D.O.A.'s pre-season Div. 5 event.
The most impressive is a VRML representation of Hammer Downs!
We have been alerted to a new set of
rules for converting Car Wars into 3D
using matchbox models.
High Velocity Duelling
7 is now available, including the results of the inaugural
design competition, as well as features on snipers and racing.
Blast from the Past
The Associated Press reports that the late Mexican drug
tycoon Amado Carrillo Fuentes played Car Wars. It doesn't
say so in so many words... but he had a late-model Dodge
Ram pickup with armor-plating, solid tires, a smokescreen,
an oildropper, and a junkdropper.

We've put the
AADA Charter Application
online, so now you don't need to send us a SASE just to get the form. Just
print it out, fill out the info, and send it in with your charter dues, and
you'll be an official AADA Chapter.
The Return of ADQ? and Car Wars in the Onion
November 08, 1997 -
A couple of pieces of Car Wars news from the
Daily Illuminator
The Return of ADQ?
A very committed
Car Wars
fan is interested in reviving
Autoduel Quarterly.
We'd like to see that happen . . . if there is really enough interest to
make it worth everyone's effort. To that end, we'd appreciate your
filling out
Yet Another Web Poll
to help us decide whether the magazine can return.
-- Steve Jackson
Car Wars in The Onion
In case you didn't know, The Onion is probably the best
purveyor of satire in America today. They have a regular magazine,
and a great online presence.
Anyway, we mention it here because a recent article
mentions
Car Wars
and GenCon. Hey, any excuse to plug a cool site . . .
-- Scott Haring
New Resources
October 20, 1997 -
Visitors both new and old will want to know that there are a
few new links to
Unofficial Car Wars pages.
Sean Peterson's Nexus RPG storehouse
contains an Excel 95 workbook to aid in vehicle design and a very
fancy arena section.
Associated with
High Velocity Duelling
is the
Play by email Car Wars Duelling Circuit.
If you prefer something a little more edifying, the American
Psychological Association recently published an article entitled
"
Car Wars: taming drivers' aggression".
According to one of the researchers quoted 'To some people,
their car is their moving castle.' Do they mean us?
