Ogre Line Editor Job Description
Reports to Chief Operating Officer. May supervise other editorial staff as assigned.
Editors are responsible for understanding and following all standards and procedures in the Creative Staff Manual.
Responsible for:
- Line Planning.
- Helping (with Managing Editor, Chief Operating Officer, Marketing Director, and Editor-in-Chief) plan future releases in the Ogre (and Ogre Miniatures) line.
- With Managing Editor and Chief Operating Officer, set actual schedule for new releases and work back from that date to feasible deadlines.
- For items where it is not realistic to set a release date, work with Managing Editor and Chief Operating Officer to set reasonable milestones for the creators to follow.
- Product Development.
- Maintains any required database(s) or other files of past drafts, proposed new units, rules, etc.
- Create scenarios and other support material. Encourages fan creation of scenarios by contests, etc.
- Negotiates with outside writers as needed, subject to guidelines provided by Managing Editor and Chief Operating Officer.
- Works with whoever is currently dealing with artists to make sure that art specs and finished art are appropriate to canon.
- Reviews first drafts before they go to Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor for approval.
- Works with Game Developer to supervise playtest effort. May moderate, or be active on, mailing lists.
- Provides Managing Editor or Chief Operating Officer with final version of counters, overlays, maps, and rules for each new supplement.
- Proofreads final draft, counter sheets, etc., before publication. Note that others will also be doing this, but the Line Editor must check everything before it goes to print. Schedules must allow time for this.
- Marketing.
- Works with Marketing Director; comments on marketing ideas. Passes along marketing-related customer feedback.
- Proposes additional ideas to Marketing Director.
- Product Support. (Online and Otherwise)
- Answers rules questions (etc.) from the public, directing these to the forums wherever possible. May supervise volunteers to aid with this task.
- May bring hard questions to a "gods" mailing list before answering.
- Compiles rules questions and answers for the web.
- Compiles errata and forwards it to the Errata Coordinator.
- Insures that web pages are kept up to date. Note that the Ogre site is old and sprawling. It needs a lot of attention.
- Monitors appropriate public blogs and forums, and/or supervises volunteers to do so.
- Provides information on the line as requested by Webmaster.
- Provides resource material for the Men In Black program – helps recruit demonstrators and create guidelines for good demonstrations – as well as other support as assigned.
