There are two ways to receive the list: a standard version and a digest.
The standard version is just what you'd expect: every time someone sends email to the list, it's sent out to everyone. Thus, if there are thirty posts to the list in a day, you get thirty email messages, as they are sent, throughout the day.
The digest version of the list is a little different. You get all the email, but rather than getting individual messages, you get groups of them, sent out at regular intervals (as defined by the list software). You get the bonus of seeing all the traffic on the list in several convenient packages, with less inbox clutter, but you lose the ability to see the information as quickly as you'd like.
