Atlas Games' Penumbra imprint has a reputation for including some of the consistently best quality d20 System scenarios since their launch title, Three Days to Kill. This is despite the fact that not one of them is tied into any one specific campaign or setting, but are instead written in such a way as to fit into almost any d20 System fantasy world. Their latest is Unhallowed Halls, which gets off to a good start by stating that is an adventure that emphasizes, " . . . [I]nvestigation, infiltration, and diplomacy . . . " More specifically, Unhallowed Halls is designed for a party of four to six characters of 4th to 6th level.

The action of Unhallowed Halls takes place over two days, and centers on the village of Grimm's Thorp and the nearby Grimm Thorpe University. This establishment is a small school for scribes, alchemists, and wizards, which holds a fundraising ball each year. The player characters are to attend this year's ball, which marks the 300th anniversary since the university's founding. Several suggestions are given to facilitate this and get the characters there: have them deliver a large bequest, have their wizard be a graduate of Grimm Thorpe, or their cleric be a worshipper of Solyera. Known as the "Light Bringer," Solyera is a lawful good goddess of healing, knowledge, the arts, and life itself. . . .
