To date the releases from Privateer Press for their Iron Kingdoms campaign setting has been exceptional for two reasons. The first of these is the excellent quality and depth of their supplements, The Witchfire Trilogy of scenarios, and recently published Monsternomicon -- Volume I: Denizens of the Iron Kingdoms, which is a monster book and more. All have been highly detailed and well-written books that have greatly benefited from the singular look and feel of the art of Brian Snoddy and Matt Wilson. Unfortunately, the second of these reasons are the slothful rate at which the four books-to-date have released. The first part of The Witchfire Trilogy, The Longest Night came out in 2001, and it was only with the publication of Monsternomicon -- Volume I: Denizens of the Iron Kingdoms in August of 2002, that the GM was given information about the beasts and races of the Iron Kingdoms. Some of these races are suited for use as player characters, which much-needed information considering that the setting is not home to a number of d20 System fantasy staples, such as gnomes, halflings, orcs and half-orcs, dark elves, and so on.
