In an obvious attempt to head-off the release of Wizard of the Coast's Savage Species comes The Complete Monstrous Fighter's Compendium from Fast Forward Entertainment. As a result, comparisons between the two, which essentially cover the same ground, are inevitable, if perhaps not always warranted.

The Complete Monstrous Fighter's Compendium is in a very real sense a players' handbook for FFE's Elara campaign setting, a unique world where PCs are intended to play the monstrous "Green Races" in a land dominated by these evil beings. That said, the book can also be used in any other fantasy game setting, creating options for playing atypical humanoid races.

It should be noted that this book is the first in a series of Complete Monstrous Compendiums, each of which will cover a new character type and provide new player character monsters, feats, skills, and spells applicable to that class.

The races detailed within consist mostly of these known collectively as the Green Races, including bugbears, derro, dragongoblins, drow, duergar, gnolls, several types of goblins, half-orcs, hobgoblins, kobolds, ogres, orcs, and two types of trolls. In addition, and in spite of being in direct conflict with the books theme, there are also five "good races" herein: bronzemen (obviously patterned on ancient Greeks), dwarves, elves, the Furush (reminiscent . . .
