Long before the phrase "role playing game" held any meaning for me, I was an avid fan of Choose Your Own Adventure. Just in case you were deprived, Choose Your Own Adventure was a series of children's books that provided its readers various opportunities to determine how each story would end. I hadn't thought of Choose Your Own Adventure in years, about the hours of enjoyment I once knew. All of it immediately came back when I picked up The Devil's Addition. Simply stated, The Devil's Addition is Choose Your Own Adventure for adults. It is an interactive western, a solitaire adventure book that has over 40 different endings and 400 numbered episodes. You play by reading through various passages, making decisions, and then flipping to other passages as determined by the results of your previous decisions. There is some six-sided die rolling on occasion to account for chance, and there is a point system that allows you to keep score, but there is very little record keeping. The Devil's Addition is more dedicated in involving the reader in the story.

And what a story it is.

The year is 1871. You control the fate of deputy U.S. Marshal Red Lewis, whose task is to hunt down a wanted man in the red light district of Abilene, Kansas. You have the span of six hours to do so. Although it sounds fairly straightforward, there are plenty of subplots and plot twists to . . .
