I enjoy a good conspiracy theory. I like to speculate and play "what if" games. The more outlandish an idea (aliens, secret societies, government cover-ups), the more I'm attracted. Naturally, when Eden Studios announced that they were working on a GURPS translation of their flagship game, Conspiracy X, I was interested. I decided to look into what all the fuss was about.

In its newly released and revised third printing, Conspiracy X has been referred to by many gamers as the "X-Files RPG." While it is fair to say it has been influenced by the X-Files, Conspiracy X has taken the concepts of aliens, UFOs, and other supernatural shenanigans to new and different levels.

Characters are agents of Aegis, a shadow organization that is waging a secret war with the Black Book, an rival shadow organization. The Black Book is selling out humanity for alien technology and Aegis is trying to stop them. Of course, with a title like Conspiracy X, you know it goes a lot deeper and is more twisted than that.

Players are not trapped into having FBI or NSA agents as characters. Aegis casts a wide recruiting net, having members from such diverse organizations as the Center for Disease Control and Project MKULTRA in its ranks. What this means is that each character is able to pull strings in their respective organizations to acquire resources . . .
