In last week's review of the 7th Sea Player's Guide, I bemoaned the fact that too much information about the game and its world was hinted at, but not explained. I was very pleased to learn that many of the mysteries -- though not quite all -- of the game are cleared up nicely in the 7th Sea Game Master's Guide. The first section describes the game world of Theah in much greater detail than the Player's Guide. Each country gets at least 15 pages, with the greatest emphasis on the pseudo-England land of Avalon, which weighs in at 22 information-packed pages. Each description covers everything from geography and climate to social strata, art, fashion, what people eat, the prominent religions, the government, how the military is organized, what the economy is based on, their relations (official and unofficial) with the other countries of Theah, and -- most importantly -- descriptions of the most important people in each country. These are not full NPC descriptions using the 7th Sea rules, but more roleplaying sketches, with GM advice on the characters' points of view, goals, and manner of speech. In addition to the major lands of Theah, the pirate league Brotherhood of the Coast and the Vaticine Church, both as powerful in some respects as any country, are also profiled.
