December 30, 2006: Encyclopedia Prehistorica

I was given a copy of this incredibly neat book for Christmas (thank you, thank you, you know who you are!). The full title is Encyclopedia Prehistorica Dinosaurs: The Definitive Pop-Up. It's a 2"-thick book, and from the outside you might think for a moment that it's a serious text. But then you open it . . . and it's pop-ups! Huge dramatic pop-ups, and smaller ones around the edges of each page. Beautiful and clever. And then you read . . . and it is a serious text. It's not deep, but it talks intelligently about the dinosaurs and their world. I gleefully recommend this for any dinosaur fan in your life, though if those fans are very young you'll want to supervise their enjoyment, as pop-ups are delicate!
