June 3, 2026: Gaming Decor For Your IRL Space

My house is definitely decorated in Early Dungeon, at least to the extent that dungeons also feature stacks of books, boxes of games, and random tech stuff. I'm always looking for ways to make it dungeon-ier. Based on what I see on Kickstarter and at conventions, I suspect a lot of us do the same. I came across the following 3D print project on Kickstarter today:

The basic lanterns are nice, but the plethora of accessories, like different types of mounting, is what got me to click "BACK THIS PROJECT." There are chains to hang them from, hooks to hang the chains from the wall, and so on.

I have a small candle lantern that I got from an antique store (though I strongly doubt its actual antiquity) because it has sides held on by magnets, so you can switch designs by season. There's a spiderweb one, for instance, for Halloween. That is something that could easily be done with these lanterns and some magnets. Which I intend to do. If you don't have the time or talent to make 3D printable panels to stick over the existing ones, then cut them out of foamcore, poster board, balsa wood, or your modeling flat-stuff of choice. I might give mine a cobwebby look with some dollar-store cobwebs . . . I can probably still find some on my front porch railing from when I used them as a Halloween decoration a few years ago and they would. not. come. off., and some little plastic spiders from the same place. Some LED light pucks will give me remote-controlled colored lights. It would be fun at a pivotal moment to turn off the overhead lights by remote (I have Wyze bulbs in my living room) and switch the lanterns to red.

These are going to be an excellent addition to my Early Dungeon decor. We didn't make them, but they're worth checking out.
