This is an adventure suitable for any number of players, in pretty much any genre -- though the characters should be roaming when the adventure takes place. The robot is always at least three Tech Levels higher than the current TL, although it will never be below TL 8.

Ingredients

The Town

A little village, no larger than a thousand people, in which the PCs stop for the night, or visit on the way to another destination. The population is mostly farmers and craftsmen, though there are a few merchants and career politicians (the mayor, for one). This village has very little trouble and a low crime rate, since strangers are readily identified and the town is very easily overlooked in the grand scheme of things.

The Old Guy

The town's codger, the Old Guy is the stereotypical unfazeable old coot. The children insist he's been around for 200 years; his experience with the village seems to indicate that he's been around a bit longer than that. In fact, he was one of the town's founders, and whether it's magic, advanced technology, or sheer willpower that's keeping him alive, he's not telling the secret of his longevity anytime soon. However he manages to keep himself alive, he does know quite a bit about the town and the surrounding area, and can answer pretty much any question the group has on those topics -- if he feels like it.

The Other Town

This town, several miles distant, maintains a steady rivalry with the first . . .
