The Fajo Collection

In a previous Pyramid Pick, I reviewed Decipher Games' Star Trek and Star Wars "First Anthology" series. I wrote in that review that I hoped Decipher would continue to find new and innovative ways to release and market cards for their games. The Fajo Collection for the Star Trek Game gave me my wish.

Kivas Fajo, for whom the set is named, is a famous trader and collector of artifacts. And this set of cards is a collector's dream. The 18 cards come in a hardbound folder and slipcase. This might at first glance seem like overkill for cards, but these are special cards. Some of them are printed in six colors instead of the usual four. Some are printed with special metallic inks that reflect light differently than usual. One is entirely in Klingon (including the copyright notice). Two of the cards in the set are printed with a "bleed" on the card's edge that makes them fit together in a surprising way.

But while this set is a masterwork of the card maker's art, this set is also fun for fans of Star Trek. The Fajo Collection marks the first appearance of several major (and fan favorite) personnel and items from The Next Generation. In addition to Kivas Fajo himself, the set finally introduces Guinan, Lore, Miles O'Brien, Locutus of Borg, and Data's pet cat Spot, among others.

But, despite all these advantages to the set, these are cards for a game. . . .
