Mongoose Publishing, the United Kingdom's largest publisher of RPGs, has kept to a uniquely British institution for its second license: the weekly comic 2000AD. The company has already produced an RPG based upon the comics' longest running strip, Judge Dredd. Like The Judge Dredd Roleplaying Game, the Sláine RPG employs the d20 System for its mechanics; also like the Judge Dredd RPG, this is not the first time that Sláine has appeared in an RPG format.

Sláine: The Roleplaying Game of Celtic Heroes is the first full roleplaying game treatment of the comic, and comes as a solid, nicely presented hardback. It is laid out in the same style as the Judge Dredd RPG, but to a much better effect. The page header and border uses a Celtic border, which feels far more in keeping with the source than the gold bars of the Judge Dredd RPG. Only occasionally is the text allowed to stray too close to the page header; this is something that Mongoose needs to watch out for in future releases.
