March 28, 2026: Save The Battleship (Museum)!

Because I'm a gamer, I'm always interested in unusual (and sometimes highly obscure) information because it might come in useful some day; you most likely are, too. Some of that information is directly gaming-related, like the details of the construction of castles or the garb of the landsknechter; some is much less so, like battleships or bridge construction. But geeks gotta geek, and on YouTube, I can't get enough of the Battleship New Jersey Museum & Memorial videos. I'm not sure what use it will ever be unless I start running a steampunk/dieselpunk campaign, but, like so many of the other things I run into that pull me down a rabbit hole, the details are fascinating.

At the moment, the New Jersey museum has basically their last chance to obtain what the Navy was storing from the Iowa-class battleships in the event that it might be needed in the future. It's everything from spare parts (including the original steam whistle!) to manuals. This video explains it. Basically, they need to get some staff to Brownsville, TX, and hire some trucks to get it all back to New Jersey. In my opinion (and I put my wallet where my mouth is), it's worth a donation.
